May SAT 2011: CR Section

i thought that the answer with the conservatory suggested that jazz musicians had to go to the conservatory first or something? i said hard work because the author made it seem like with jazz you had to learn all of the technical stuff first and then you had to be creative on top of that.

@tlstoqur, it was definitely the one with “investigate,” the first sentence talked about piecing together clues or something.

hmmm… idk i just remember the word “precede”
and also did no one get “content in diversity” for the answer choice with “aesthetic power?” because although passage 1 did mention the beauty of art, the whole last paragraph was all devoted to how the art had repetition, while the second passage touched on the aesthetic power by saying it would never be in an art museum, while it never talked about the diversity

also, what is this business:difficulty/limitations vocab question? i dont remember it

what was question for SC

Synthesize/Divergent

Here are all the controversies:

Jazz Passage ( the whole passage seems to be controversial)

 1. Jazz education is hard to measure/Value of Jazz is difficult to assess vs. learning Jazz is a strenuous activity - the whole passage was praising jazz, so it would never say that jazz takes tons of effort to learn or something like that
 2. Distinctive vs Personal Creative - the passage clearly said distinctive voices

The Art in the Cave
Scholars were frustrated or delighted with the Grand Theory (i put frustrated_

Exuberance and General Agreement seem to have been decided.

@ OMFGitsanAZN that was the one with the small silicon chip that was small

@ tlstoqur7 That was the one with the Mexican writer merging to perspectives.

what was the second jazz question and what was the distinctive voices answer? i put creative without second guessing, now i’m confused!

@■■■■ - Yeah I don’t remember that vocab one either…Anyone? Edit: Oh. That’s the chip? A couple pages back I think we said it should be small/functional.

@tlstoqur - Had to do with combining Mexican and American viewpoints to create one (divergent) unique viewpoint.

“Business: Difficulty/Limitations”

anyone got the sentence for this?

Damn I got 4 vocab and like 5 comprehension wrong,
and I skipped 2…might as well cancel :(

I was reluctant to put demanding because it talked about how formal training wasn’t the only thing for jazz. But I put it because the passage said how jazz artists and to express their own soul and become tuned in with their creativity and stuff… idk seemed like a lot of work to me haha.

@Newton’s list, is the one with appreciation of difficulties talking about how the whale researcher compared whale research to a sonnet form? Because then it is definitely appreciation of limitations, because the sonnet form is a really strict style just like how naturalistic observation inhibits the scientists in certain ways.

I believe it was sympathetic and not frustrated. I’m almost certain that general agreement was the answer for the other one.
I thought these questions were really easy when I was taking it, but now I’m worried x_x oh well. Really hoping the curve is -2 = 800 because I know I got one wrong. Has a curve of -4 = 800 ever been heard of? -3 = 800 isn’t helpful at all.

in the cave paintings passage what was the question for the empathy answer newton has on their consolidated list?

-4 could not be an 800, sorry. if cc wants to take this down they can but it’s just a link of sat curves in the past few years: http://www.erikthered.com/tutor/SAT-Released-Test-Curves.pdf

as you can see it ranges from 720-750ish depending on how hard the test is. gut feeling says -4 is 720 because i got three (or was it four?) wrong last test in january and got 730

@Newton - Why do you think the historians’ viewpoint was sympathetic towards the “Grand Theory is still unknown” statement by passage 1? I put frustrated because I thought the historians were positive that the cave art is definitely for a historical record.

@Newton391244

Do you or anyone else remember answer choices other than synthesize/divergent for the Mexican/American SC question?? Lol, it’s really bothering me :/

Have the reader view human history visually?
I probably missed that one… what was the quetion though?

There was this question that had as an answer “offer a proposal”…

lolz… i don’t trust you guys at all cause according to march i would have gotten a 760… lolz i got a 800, 0 wrong. But this time, i’m not very confident about my answers so i think i’m just gonna cancel…gah. dam you SAT

silicon was definitely small/functional
the sentence was along the lines of “as more and more stuff get’s crammed into silicon chips, it runs into a fundamental problem,” and then ______ and ________
something like that =P

btw… does NO ONE remember an answer choice that had the word “precede” for the jazz passage? lollz, because im SURE i put that as my answer choice… O.o

“Had to do with combining Mexican and American viewpoints to create one (divergent) unique viewpoint.”

I thought that one was “assimilate” and something else??
