May SAT CR Thread

what was the question in the passage about diamond, it was something like: what does this warning mean and it was talking about the innocent, jeez that was a bad explanation lol

nominal – does anyone remember the exact question or the context of the question???

path in the string theory section - what does it mean??

pleaseeeeee going crazy right now

gahh i hate critical reading. thanks for the feedback though.

and what about the useless flattery vs. exaggerated self-regard. I thought the flattery was both for himself and all of humankind in some way…so i didn’t think it was purely self-regard.

and for the innocent people were defamed?? why not “guilt”?
momentary perplexity vs. increasing alarm?? i thought the butler seemed pretty easy going in the beginning but he started feeling unsure at that point

succinct doesn’t necessarily mean short–it can just mean simple–and the clue was “economy”–economical things are simple, short, to the point, etc

^ hmmm… that is a good point…

The path was unexpecting and something about not a straight line

Definetly exaggerated self-regard.

I had guilt, but if you read it carfully, their character was destroyed, they were defamed

the butler was confused by what was going on. didnt understand the situation.

succinct does not mean short.

@college confidential

I have reason for false hope now. I think, after hearing all of your difficulties with the CR on this month’s test, that this was indeed one of the most difficult tests yet. And consequently, it warrants a suitable curve for its overwhelming difficulty.

I’m looking through my January QAS right now…the passages are literally 1/2 to 3/4 the size of the passages we faced today, with the exception of the butler passage. that was the only passage of moderately easy difficulty I came across today, along with frida kahlo (a half passage in its own right).

Chimpanzees do more than break nuts. CB should realize the human significance behind it, but they are numskulls that fail to do so.

And, lastly, I propose that the CC community protests if we all consistently get scores lower than our previous ones or absurd scores that are in no way reflective of our abilities.

These are the makings of a new court case-- College Board vs. College Confidential - _ -

For the “complex mathematics” question, I don’t really see how that was the answer…?
I think the question specifically mentioned an “unprecedented” situation or something to that effect, and complex equations are certainly not unprecedented.

personally, i did not find the CR hard. and i do usually find CRs hard.

^^ SAME! I remember eliminating it immideitly. I put D. Whatever that was. It was either that or A, and it definetly wasn’t A.

@prattennis_1

Agreed. These curves are getting really out of hand. I rather have a hard test than an easy test if that’s what it takes.

what do u guys think a -10 to 12 on crit read would be? it was harsh for me.

olleger,
To clarify:

Succinctly | Define Succinctly at Dictionary.com
suc·cinct
–adjective
1.
expressed in few words; concise; terse.
2.
characterized by conciseness or verbal brevity.
3.
compressed into a small area, scope, or compass.

Economy | Define Economy at Dictionary.com
economy-
the efficient, sparing, or concise use of something: an economy of effort; an economy of movement.

Succinct and economy fit perfectly.

I admit defeat = /.

About the math complexity thing, how many people actually put this as their answer?

everyone, especially regarding:
complex math
nuts and factories
fits and starts
collection of individual accounts

please, there’s a search function for a reason.

Olleger-

Apparently a lot, since it’s on the list. I got that one wrong too. What’d you put?

The math complexity - I already said this but I was back and forth between that answer and “a testament to the complexity of the theory” and I believe I ended up putting the other one.
They were answers C and D I believe, if not D and E.

I put D. I forget the answer choice though. Do you remember the 5? The first was the theoretical part of physics. One was the math complexity. Other 3?

^ YES that is what I put! “a testament to the complexity of the theory”.

In the passage 1 it says that the math was complex, yes, but in passage 2, it says that for 20 years we found no tangible results, and this IS NOT b/c the equations were complex but b/c the theory was complex.

olleger-

I put the “arbitrary nature of science”. I think that was D.
I think I understand why “complexity” is right though.

so… instead of the answers, how’d you guys think you did? I was thinking more of a 600-650 for me. It was in my opinion still hard and difficult than in march and January.
