MAY SAT Discussion

I did not have the "Horse/gee gee" but did have journalism

sibsagar12,

Yes, but I forget what the actual question is now. Do you remember?

godot: how would author 2 react to the initiative presented in the first passage

I said it was unwarranted.

I got unwarranted also.

yeah one of my answer was unwarranted

there was a question about compensation in the shopkeepers passage.
was the answer like favorable economic conditions brought on by industrialization

sibsagar12,

That's what I chose, but I worked that very quickly, so I am not certain of the answer. Anyone else?

what were the other options? I'm fairly sure most were eliminated because they didn't pertain to the shopkeepers or didn't make sense as reasons for the shopkeepers to be happy (talking about profits made at the expense of shopkeepers). I think I picked the economic one as well...

one choice talked about the manufactorers being profited. thats the only choice i remember

the compensation one for the shop keepers....i put that too. favorable economic conditions..

sibsagar12,

That choice is probably not correct, since the "compensation" appeared to be for society/people in general, not just for the manufacturers.

yeah i chose economic benefits as well, three others were way out there and the other one was similar to the economic one but not as clear

i said the benign monster characterized the manufacturing process since factory workers were only mentioned in passing in the first paragraph without much sympathy

what was the answer to question about the quote regarding the indians. it was in the first passage. the choices were like:
present opposing view points
discredit a widely held belief

But the second paragraph DOES mention the workers in more detail (and the reference is in the second paragraph). You may be right, but I chose "sympathy for the workers" because the factories are like a "monster" that subjects the workers to harsh working conditions. I didn't choose "characterizes the manufacturing process" because the "benign monster" description didn't make much sense with the descriptions of the products coming out uniform and perfect. It sounds odd to call the actual process a "monster," and if you DO think of the process/factories as a kind of monster, aren't you then implying that this "monster" is hurting or treating the workers badly (but not too badly, since it's "benign")? I could be totally off-base here. This is one of the only ones I was not certain about. Can you provide your reasoning for choosing your answer??

'sympathy for the workers' is correct, it is clear that the passage is about the conditions of workers and the condescending view of them held by merchants, and not the process itself.

One,

Thanks. :) If you're right, that means I haven't missed a question yet. (Fingers crossed.) Of course, I'll probably end up with something like a 2390 and kick myself.

question about the quote regarding the indians. it was in the first passage. the choices were like:
present opposing view points
discredit a widely held belief

same here, but what did you put down for what the researcher thought when he saw the soldiers yawn? unnecessary or unexpected?

sibsagar12,

What was the passage about exactly? Sorry, my memory is not the best right now since I didn't sleep much last night.
