What do you wear to an on campus interview? In 90 degree August heat?

A polo???????

I'm sure the room will be air conditioned but a polo and dress shorts would seem fine to me. Keep in mind that students tend to do summer interviews not admission officers.

Thanks! We are driving down from New Hampshire and I know I am going to be rushed. Wish me luck.

I'd wear khaki pants instead of shorts. FYI, students do all the interviews, not just in the summer.

do u think a summer interview on campus is better than waiting until after applying and locally interviewing with alumni?

admissions addict, my interview was by an alumnus. do you mean on-campus interviews are all done by students? never had one of those, myself.

Sorry not to be clear. All on-campus interviews are done by students. The other type of interview is with an alum in your area.

business casual is best, no shorts please it just too casual.

Again, thank you. I was not sure about the shorts. So, a polo and khaki pants it is.
BTW, which is better - the summer on campus interview or the off campus alum interview? Does the interview even really matter that much?
This is the beginning of my college application process. I know Yale (and every other ivy) is a longshot but what the heck. I am really not looking forward to the next 6 months.

An interview doesn't help that much. It usually confirms what is in the rest of your application. A poor interview can raise red flags, however, and a great interview might be the little something extra that puts you over the top. Interviews are not required and they do not play a large role in admissions. No difference in having an interview on-campus vs. with an alum.

I think the only downside of doing an on-campus interview this summer is that it may be your first college interview and you won't be as polished as you'd be if you interviewed with an alum in the winter.
