MBA directly after undergrad?

Hi,

A little background info:
I'm going to be a freshman at the University of Alabama this fall studying Mechanical Engineering. I was offered acceptance into Alabama's STEM-MBA program. This program consists of taking a business class every semester during undergrad then taking 3 semesters of business class in gradschool after you graduate. I have 8 semesters worth of full tuition scholarship at Alabama, and Ill go in with enough credits to get my B.S. in ME in 3-3.5 years.

So my question is: should I go with the program and allow my scholarship to cover 1-2 semesters of my MBA? Or graduate with my bachelors in ME, work for a couple years, and then go back part time and get my MBA at a local university paying full price. I know Alabama isnt exactly a top tier MBA program, but the local colleges I would get my MBA program wouldn't be much better, so it's not like I would be going to Penn or Stanford.

Even though I love engineering type stuff, but I'm really a people person and would love to move into management or even create my own start-up. So I figure an MBA would be very helpful if not neccessary.

Thanks for the help!

From what many people on this forum have said, an MBA straight out of undergrad, and especially one from a less “branded” university is not going to be very helpful and is not going to be worth the money. You are better off working in the industry for several years, attempting leadership roles in engineering, and then attempting to get into a higher-tier MBA several years down the line. If you really want to go to a local college (why?) for your MBA, you could probably work for several years and then see if your employer would pay for a part-time program.
