So I have yet to graduate high school, but already I'm thinking about my distant future. I wanna major in marketing, but I've read that it's useless unless you have tons of connections. Well most of these people that posted about the degree were perusing only their B.A. In the field, I wanna take it a step further. So how would an MBA look? I would go to a state school for the b.a, then hopefully transfer to a top 20 for the MBA

That last sentence is by far the best thing I have EVER read on these forums.

Haha unlike most of the people here, I don’t have a stick in my ass, and I know realistically, I’m not Ivy material :P. But the state school I plan to go is by far pretty good, for its league :)

AlexMitu, you need to do some research because you still have no clue why the last sentence in your post was funny.

Do you just wanna make it easier on me and explain? lol

EDIT: Oh, because an MBA is a masters in business admin? Well that little error was just hilarious, I tell you hwat :P

You don’t go to business school right after graduating. To get into a decent program, you need at least two years of legitimate work experience. To get that, you will need a useful major because you are going to a state school. These include math/statistics, economics + math, finance or accounting (probably one of the first two options based on the field you are interested in.) Without going to a top notch undergrad program, marketing is nearly impossible to break into without serious connections.

Problems with this sentence…

“I would go to a state school for the b.a, then hopefully transfer to a top 20 for the MBA.”

1) Yes, going for a biz admin degree and subsequently getting an MBA is super redundant.
2) You don’t “transfer” to an MBA program, you get admitted to it. Maybe this is a bit technical, but I thought I’d point it out to be sure.
3) You don’t get admitted or transfer or whatever-you-want-to-call-it to an MBA program. MBA programs in general, not to mention “the top 20,” basically require work experience before pursuing the MBA.

Why all the harsh comments?

@AlexMitu. Major in a useful major, like accounting or finance. After you graduate, go work for 2 years at a big company, like the Big4 accounting firms or some bank, then apply for a MBA program. People normally don’t go from undergraduate to MBA without work experience because one, work experience is a high factor in MBA admission, and two, you won’t have any work experience that you can apply in your MBA program.

Haha okay okay, I’ll admit it, I didn’t do a ton of research, but you guys don’t have to be dicks about it :P.

And I was hoping to get away from math once I graduated xD. Oh well, looks like if I wanna be in business, any form of it, I’ll need to study of on those mathematics lol.

Well I’ll be a senior next year, so a little over a year until I graduate, about 3 years til I n need to declare my major, so I have plenty of time :P

EDIT: Oh, and the school I’m planning on going to is the University of Washington, pretty well know on the west coast for their research and business programs :P

Make sure you don’t use emoticons in your college apps.

^lol…well just have a concentration if you major in business admin for your undergrad. And don’t choose a useless focus such as management/entrepreneurship.
