MBA or BA/MA Program?

I’m currently at Hunter College with a GPA of 3.8 and I’ve decided to a do a major in Econ with a double minor in Math and Computer Science. I have a lot of options and I’m not sure which one would be best.

  1. Finish undergrad at Hunter then go to Business School (hopefully at Columbia)
  2. Do the BA/MA Econ Program at Hunter. My professor says that many students who choose this path end up getting their phD from Princeton, or the University of Chicago.
  3. Finish undergrad at Hunter then pursue a Master's Degree in either Econ/Math/Finance.

My ultimate goal is to get my phD and become a professor. I would like a management/finance position after undergrad though.

What do you guys think?

Any of these options would work, although #2 or #3 are better options for someone who wants to get a PhD and become a professor. An MBA from business school won’t really get you towards that goal, unless you pursue some research opportunities while in business school, perhaps work for a few years to repay those loans, and then re-enter a PhD program in business. But if you want to get a PhD in economics, then you have to go with either route #2 or #3, or a fourth option - finish your BA in econ at Hunter and then apply directly into PhD programs in econ as a senior.
