Tell me about the MBA program at MIT. How hard is it to get admitted? What kinds of majors are favored? Does MIT prefer applicants straight out of undergrad or does it prefer applicants with work experience?

My understanding is it’s almost impossible to get into a good MBA program without work experience.

Getting into the MBA program at MIT (or for most top 5 MBA programs) is not anywhere as hard as getting into MIT undergrad. If you have the right metrics (GPA and GMAT), you’re in good shape. Of course, your recs should be positive but don’t have to be great–i.e., you should be recognized as a good, competent worker who has decent people skills. You can get a good idea for the GPA and GMAT by just looking at published averages. It would make sense if they favored people with technical or quantitative backgrounds, considering that is MIT’s strength.

I’m not an expert in this subject, but I do know people who have gotten into programs like Sloan. I don’t know about Wharton or Harvard (they may be harder), but I think what I said is true for the other top programs. I know Harvard makes you write a ton of essays.
