MBA with "reasonable" scores?

So right now I am a Business major with a concentration in Finance and Investments at Cal State Long Beach. My in major GPA is 3.45, although my transfer grades from when I was younger are poor, bringing my cumulative GPA down to approx 3.00+ at graduation in the Spring. I am Student Portfolio Manager in an honors Student Managed Investment Fund program, managing $350K of available funds at this time (group of 16 students). I would like to further my education with an MBA program at a top local school. USC and UCLA are my top choices. I'm so-so on Pepperdine and UCI's programs. I have yet to take the GMAT, but I will be taking a prep class over winter break in January, and taking the GMAT soon thereafter. I have work experience in Customer Service, Collections, Accounts Receivable, and as an Engineering Technician. The last job ended two years ago when I returned to school full time.

What are my chances at getting into either USC or UCLA? Am I in over my head thinking I can get in? Or am I not too far off? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thank you.

I hope a CSU alum with experience applying to UCs and USC will respond with a breakdown of their metrics. I, too, am a CSU student and I intend on applying to USC, UCLA as “likely” schools, but I don’t know if my likelihood compass is off base or what. Please respond, somebody. :)

Projected 705
Expected 3.85 GPA from CSUN

I am in a similar situation as mrclean. I go to cal poly pomona with jun/senior gpa of about 3.65 for undergrad in cis and overall 3.1 due to numerous D’s and F’s from my cc which i have made up some. I am gunning toward pepperdine and usc as my top choices and ucla, claremont as secondary choices due to my reasons such as roi, costs, connections, and distance. I plan to have 3 years of work experience in a technical field and IT project management, a few extracirricular activies such as clubs, and expect a gmat of about 650. I would like my emphasis to be in Finance or Information Systems. What are my chances with such an unusual applicant as I?
