So for this 2015 MCAT that people are talking about, are students who are entering college in the fall of 2011 safe from this, assuming that they take the MCAT as juniors, or will med schools change requirements for those applying to med school for the 2015 school year based on these MCAT changes?

It’s not clear yet. Harvard is the only school I know of so far that has announced new admission requirements based on the new MCAT. The changes will apply to those entering in 2016.

I thought that MCAT has an effective date of three years. I would hope that that some medical schools might still accept the MCAT results in the current system after 2015 even if the new system is adopted. But, pre-meds from class 2015 should plan prudently since they may face the most intense competition. Any delays could be costly.

Med schools may accept the old MCAT score if you take the exam before Jan 2015, but if the school has put in place new admission requirements effective as of a certain date you’ll be obliged to fulfill them.

I heard Hopkins also announced some new requirements, but is now rethinking…expect change to be about change. :)
