First, I am just wondering what the benefits are to taking the MCAT in the summer right before junior year as opposed to during the spring of junior year. I have heard that two benefits are having time to study and getting it out of the way. Also, would it help with applying to med school or does that occur later on? I have finished all required course work for the MCAT.

Second, what is the best test prep for the MCAT? What company? Kaplan, Princeton Review, or other? Online course or actual course? Spring or Summer course?

1.) Those two are about it.
2.) Apps are sent out June between junior and senior year.
3.) I like Kaplan a lot, but have no knowledge of PR and others. Actual course better than online. Take it immediately before you take the MCAT.

I also like the Kaplan classroom course for MCAT prep. I had a kid in my Kaplan class who used Examkrackers and did poorly on the MCAT, so he was preparing for a retake using Kaplan.

I've heard january is a very nice time to take the mcat, mainly because it's right after winter break (when you can lock yourself in your room and just study study study for 3-4 weeks!), and right before you get too headstrong into your 2nd quarter/semester. It's early enough before apps are sent out too
