I've heard that most students admitted to McCombs as freshmen are in the top 2% of their HS class. For students in or close to the top 10% is there a chance for admission and if so what would it take. My S is a sophomore and is likely to be in that position. Is there anything you can suggest he do now to increase his chances? (We are in state).

It’s really all about the class rank. The higher the class rank, the higher the chances for McCombs. If you’re around top 10%, I’d say some great test scores, essays, and recommendations are needed to get into business.

75% of the freshman class at McCombs is filled with the top 1 and 2% of students. (They start with the top 1% and keep going until they fill 75% of their slots, usually 2 or 3%). The other 25% of spaces they fill in a more “holistic” fashion, like many of the other colleges. Your son does have a chance to be in that 25%. If he has really good test scores and an otherwise outstanding application, he certainly has a chance. Make sure his application really shines, so they will notice! Good luck!
