For BHP, the statistics is out of 1250 applications, about 250 are offered admission and about 120 admitted.

a) One of the criteria as mentioned is Interview (by invitation). How important is the interview in the selection process and is mandatory?. How many applicants get interviewed from the above nos?. Is it conducted by faculty , business industry experienced alumni?

b) The average rank listed is Top 2%. Does an applicant who is Top 5% , with strong academic course load , 1500/1600 SAT score and good ECs have a chance?.

From what I’ve heard and researched, an interview is essentially mandatory to have a chance for admission. It’s generally conducted by alumni, although admissions officers may conduct interviews if there is a lack of alumni. Not sure as to how many applicants get interviewed, though.

Everyone has a chance, but your scores and rank aren’t outstanding given the pool. What are your “good ECs”?

From what I saw when my child was going through the admissions/acceptance process, you definitely have a chance.

I think the interview is important in that you need to show that you can communicate effectively. The kids that I have met in BHP are outgoing and are at ease when meeting and interacting with new people. My child interviewed over the phone with a BHP alumni. It was informal, but I believe it was important.

My child was not in the top 2% (closer to 4% at a large competitive public high school), had well above the average SAT scores, was NMF and had several average ECs but one very strong, state level EC.

One thing that really stood out to me at the Discover BHP event they have in the spring is the number of leadership positions held by accepted students. The average number was 5!

His application was complete October 22. His interview was the Friday before Christmas, and He heard in mid to late January. The applicants that applied before the 15th of October heard before Christmas I believe.
