so I surprisingly got into Wharton which now makes my decision all that much harder.

I'm trying to pick which of the two to go to. I've lived in Texas my whole life and plan to work here after graduation. I want to major in finance and do investment banking or any job with similar work since I know you can't get an ibanking job in texas. (or can you??)

my parent scan afford both schools however, paying for wharton would take a considerable toll on us since it's a little bit more than double the price of UT. however, there is no comparison to the prestige that going to an ivy league, and more specifically, the top ranked undergrad business school in the world, would do for me in the future. as of right now, I dont plan to go into graduate school either

So can someone give me some advice? Or if you know anyone who graduated from UT BHP, what was there overall experience with the Honors Program?

Personally if your parents can afford Wharton do it. Both UT and Wharton may have the same prestigiousness inside of Texas but outside of Texas there is no comparison. You never know where life will take you, if you happen to be looking for a job in London they are going to know Wharton, not so much UT Business.

Actually McCombs is one of the 5 best business schools in the world, and they will know about it worldwide. BHP is an exremely rigorous program and you will be prepared well. I heard that of the 14 UT kids signed by the Big Four last year, 13 were BHP kids.

If you want to stay and work in Texas, McCombs will give you better opportunities there. Wharton is widely regarded as the best business school in the world, but I don't know if it is worth the extra $120k over 4 years compared to McCombs, especially in BHP.

WHAT??????????????

Not even close to being true. If you're talking about undergrad, McCombs is around #11, and for grad, it's probably a little further below.

If you know that you absolutely want to work in Texas, do BHP, because it will get you the same job, except your collegiate lifestyle will be much, much better. It will also be cheaper.

Wharton will open up a TON of more doors elsewhere. Since you guys can afford it (although you may have to cut your costs a little elsewhere), I'd suggest Wharton, because it is much more malleable

US News says #5. I don't agree with much of the US News rankings, though, particularly the fact that their methodology is designed to favor those schools that have always been thought of as the best in the country--Ivy and Ivy-caliber universities.

I don't know what USNews does for its business rankings, but McCombs is #5 overall, and Accounting at McCombs is #1 in the nation.

McCombs is universally regarded as one of the elite business schools in the United States.

So I'm hoping to have the same problem of making this decision this coming year. Any advice on whether or not to apply ed to Wharton, or just do regular and hope to get into BHP also. UT runs in my family, although I visited Wharton and loved it. Also, on a second note, do middle of the class (rank wise) at Wharton still get recruited in and out of state (Texas) as say top of BHP. Any advice would really be helpful. Thanks!

Wharton is probably a better school overall if you aren't doing accounting, even compared to BHP. But it's twice as expensive and it is not twice as good as McCombs and DEFINITELY isn't twice as good as BHP. So UT is definitely the better buy, even though Wharton may be the better overall product.

Choose BHP and never look back. I know this may sound ridiculous as with these two decisions on the table at this point but for the money Wharton is NOT twice as good as BHP and while your parents may be able to afford the extra 80,000+ grand over the next four years, from a strictly business logic stand point your rewards in the future, most likely, will not be worth it. This argument to stick with BHP is especially true if you plan on staying and working in Texas. BHP in TX is as good as Wharton. Honestly, if you are a good enough student to get into Wharton from high school you will have the adeptness and mobility to get anywhere you want from BHP in relation to Wharton. This argument would not be as strong if you were not planning on staying and working in Texas but the fact that you are is really is the decision breaker. While I don't really want to say that Austin would be more "comfortable" in the sense that you are familiar to Texas I don't think you should rule out the logistics and culture difference that a school 1500 miles away in PA would present. Considering that Wharton is the MOST competitive school in the world everyone will be at or above you intellectual level, and the fact that probably 70 percent of them are east coast kids will not make the move that much easier in terms of social networking and cultural relate-ability. What I think is often overlooked in the midst of Wharton's world renowned prestige is the fact that it is not for everyone, when I say this I am not speaking intellectually, because obviously you have met their threshold which speaks clearly about where you stand, but from a objective standpoint and considering you situation BHP would suit your case better than Wharton in my opinion. Obviously, I don't know your personality but if I were in your shoes this choice when you consider everything is not as hard as it may seem.

fanta_orange, definitely pick BHP. If you choose Wharton you will be a failure in life and unfortunately will never amount to anything. Pease heed my warning as I have been to the future and have seen the destruction and horror that Wharton will bring to you.

ps. I'm sure you already made the right choice and chose BHP. If not, RIP lil buddy.
