McCombs Professors to Take/Avoid

So far my schedule is
ACC 311 TTH 8:00- 9:30 (S. Smith)
STA 309 MWF 10:00- 11:00 (Gemberling)
MIS 301 MWF 11:00- 12:00 (Patton)
B A 324 MWF 1:00- 2:00P (Holmes)
B A 101T TH 3:30- 5:00P (Medina)

Is this schedule pretty managable? I know it depends on the person but in general is it good or not? Also what about the days and times of the classes?

Also does anyone know if S Smith is good for ACCT 311? I signed up for his class and his reviews on MyEdu were only from ACCT 312 and they were all good reviews. So I guess he is teaching ACCT 311 for first time. So I am assuming he is a good professor. But just in case if anyone knows someone who took the class with S Smith. I saw that Kamas was good for ACCT so now I have a hard time deciding.

ACC 311 MW 12:30-2 - Kamas
BA 101T T 8:00-9:30 BA 101T - Ehrisman
BA 324 TTH 11:00-12:30- Morrison
MIS 301 MWF 9-10 - Gray
MAN 336 MWF 11:00-12- Dunn

How does this schedule look? Does anyone have any experience with these professors? The ratings on myedu are good, but some of them have just a few reviews.

Patton is an amazing MIS 301 professor! I had her last semester and it was just a great class. She is really passionate about the subject, and all the material is straightforward. That class made me change my major to MIS.

Gray is also good for MIS, she teachers the same “course” as Patton. They have the same curriculum as compared to the other MIS 301 teachers that do it differently. She is newer than Patton, but I’ve head just as many good things about her.

@Topawala20- I’m going to be in your BA 324 class. I been trying to get Gemberling for statistics but seems like nobody is dropping. I’m enrolled with Greenberg for now.

This is my schedule.

TMT, I’m in your BA 101T class as well.

My professors: ACC 359 Atiase, ACC 356 Mcinnes, ACC 151 Franklin, BA 324 Holmes, BA 101T Ehrisman, Stat 309 Greenberg.

Cool  See you there then. If anyone wants to add each other on facebook, we can do that. Topawala you’re Vivek right?

Lol Gemberling opened up, I tried going in and dropping my Greenberg. It dropped me from Greenberg and didn’t let me in Gemberling. I freakeddd outttt lmao. Called my advisor and he put me back into Greenberg. phew… I don’t think I’ma mess with it anymore. Gemberling is the better teacher but I think I’ll be okay if I study like crazy.

@TMT90- yep I’m Vivek.

DenuMx- is your major Accounting? If yes then are you in MPA? And do you know how Holmes is for B A 324? There weren’t that many reviews for him on MyEdu.

And maybe someone added that Gemberling class right before you did that’s why it probably didn’t let you add it. But you should get it for sure if you keep checking. And a lot of people forget to pay so they get dropped and classes will open up again in August.

Holmes is one of the best for B A 324. The other good one is Donnellan. Do not take Winslow.

Y2k, what have you heard about the professors I have registered with? (see above)

I’ve never heard of any of them except Gray.

I do know B A 101 is a joke class that you will get an A in no matter what. The teacher hardly even matters for that class.

As far as Dunn for MAN 336, I was going to register for MAN 336 but with a different teacher. I know there had to be some reason why I wouldn’t pick Dunn, and I wasn’t going to. But as far as why, I don’t necessarily know.

Hm she has pretty good reviews and like 54% As. I know Edwards is really popular with 72% As but I don’t want to have to come back to campus late in the afternoon.

@topawala20- Yeah I’m doing the MPA program. Holmes is the best for BA 324, according to the reviews/GPA ratio on myedu. As for Gemberling, its my major code. Even though I’m a transfer student, they changed my major code to an MPA graduate/upper division code when I was accepted to the MPA program. So it won’t let me register for those courses that are restricted for freshman/transfer students. I’ll call my advisor if I see an opening, but I won’t be mad if I don’t get in.

@topawala20 I’m in your Sta309 and BA101 class. Should be fun.

Looks like Holmes is not teaching BA 324 this semester anymore. Anyone have advice on who to take?

I can respond to this one easily since I’ve had many of the teachers.

BA 324 - Doesn’t really matter who you take. It’s a uniform course designed by McCombs with identical syllabi, assignments, etc. Some teachers are more understanding than others (grading doesn’t matter. They have former students do that for them). I had Donnellan and he kind of sucked. I’ve heard there are better ones out there, but overall, this class is just a huge, royal pain in the ass. Very very nit picky.

ACC 311 - Charrier is pretty awesome. I had her for ACC 356, and even though it was a difficult class, ole Gretch made it enjoyable. Very concerned about how her students are doing and generally cares about your success. I had May for ACC 311 my sophomore year. He’s a nice guy. Very straight forward. He’s some former big wig within the McCombs administration and with KPMG. Just don’t make the mistake I did by never going to class and getting your A lowered to a B by missing all the retardedly easy quizzes in class.

ACC 312 - Both of these entry level accounting classes are going to be difficult no matter what. My theory is that they’re there to deter kids from applying to the MPA program (I’m a 4th year MPA, FYI, hence how I know all this) who really can’t cut it accounting wise and are looking to get into the best accounting program in the nation. However, if Lendecky is open for ANYTHING, get him. Game over. I didn’t have him for 312, but from what I hear, he’s an awesome guy. He makes class enjoyable and fun while learning cost accounting (think of some really awesome, younger teacher in high school and that’s him)

MIS 301 - I agree with the poster. I had Patton, but her and Gray both structure the course the same (same syllabus, text book, assignments, etc). Patton was a really good teacher and I liked her alot. She makes the course interesting, but all the outside reading assignments are annoying and they’re ALWAYS somewhere on her tests. This is another BA 324-esque class in that it’s not super hard, but there are a TON of annoying little things and assignments to do that can slip your mind and you forget about (especially when mid terms are rolling around and you have tons of tests in your other classes.

The marketing and management classes mention are two that I looked at as just a really easy upper division business electives. I think I’m taking the marketing one (I’ll find out either Wednesday/Thursday/the first day of class I decide to show up)

Trying to get this thread going AGAIN!

I know some of you may have graduated or are upperclassmen by now, but if you don’t mind, please share advice on current McCombs professors and their classes for current and future BBA students!

Thanks in advance for your input!

Also, how is J. Rock for MIS?

J. Kamas for ACC 311?

My daughter had Rock for MIS last Spring. She said he was “all right.” Apparently, he does not grade anything, only the TA’s do, so if your TA’s are anal retentive, you may be in for a long semester. She made an A in the class by reading and taking notes on all the chapters and memorizing all the little things from the book. She said that was the way to an A. Oh, and make sure to know the work habits of your group for the group project because if they don’t mesh with yours, you will end up doing all the work yourself.
