I'm targeting McCombs Business Students to answer this thread.

I had a few questions regarding the lower division Accounting courses at McCombs.

1) Is the lower division Accounting curriculum the same throughout McCombs? As in, the same content is covered, same textbook perhaps, and the same tests/finals and all classes follow a similar schedule?

2) How important is it to have a good professor for these intro classes? I'm not sure how complicated the topics will be, but I want to have a solid foundation and make sure I'm set for ACC 312 and then future Accounting courses if I declare Accounting as my major.

3) Which professors do you recommend? I hear Lendecky is great, but unfortunately all of his class sections are full and I don't see an option for the waitlist.

2) As with any class, a good professor is helpful since he/she will thoroughly introduce and review the material.

3) Smith is currently open MW 9:30 to 11:00. He has good reviews on MyEdu and his average GPA is close to Lendecky’s. Devidal would be my 3rd choice as he has a penchant for group assignments.

I would suspect you have not had any feedback because no one has been a student of these professors. Go to the McCombs facebook page. There is feedback there already about ACC profs, and you can certainly add your own query.

To OP: Are you aware you must have 24 hours of college credit before you can register for ACC 311? FYI…if you don’t have enough credit hours, you may be able to initially register for ACC 311, but the registration system will “drop” you once classes start in the fall.

Yes, I’m aware that I’ll need 24 hours, so I plan on registering with fewer than 24 hours and then I’m hoping I can petition for credit through my AP exams to get to 24 hours before classes start.

Yeah, I hear the professors are new. I had another question for you, if you don’t mind? Let’s say (and I hope this doesn’t happen) that my professor is not the best at explaining certain concepts. In that scenario, am I allowed to go to another professor’s office hours (one who teaches the same course, same semester) for help or clarification?

Again, I hope that won’t happen, but I know some classes, especially upper-division ones, are tough and it’s hard to teach yourself that material.

I go to different profs office hours all the time. They usually have no problem with it unless they have a long line of their own students waiting.
