McCombs UT Austin vs Oxford College of Emory University for IB/Finance

Preface: i was accepted to both colleges! I am looking to pursue investment banking, or just finance in general. I am instate for UT Austin, so it would be significantly more affordable. Emory did not give me any money at all. Does the prestige win over the great value and very high rankings of McCombs? Is there more recruiting at Emory because of its prestige? Very conflicted would love any help/advice that y’all could offer.

There is no reason to choose Emory over McCombs for finance. McCombs places well in IB, probably better than Emory (but I’d need to recheck the numbers).

Let’s see - Emory - a great school that if you asked 100 people nationwide what it is or where it is - maybe 30 or 50 would know.

UT Austin - rated high and higher than emory in finance.

If you are going to be in finance, you need to start with knowing the better bang for your buck.

The only reason I can see going to Emory is - if you want to be in a small group and not in the middle of the action - Oxford is in the sticks and Emory is away from the city vs. McCombs.

Good luck.

  1. Oxford will give you a small school setting - meaning small, interactive classes, getting to know professors who act as mentors, etc. Then you move to Emory main campus and Goizuetta. Do you WANT that smaller setting at first? (If not, then pick UT).
  2. how will your family pay for the difference ? (If with loans, pick UT).
