MCDB Majors

Hey everyone,
I'm in a bit of a crisis here. I am starting my upper divs this coming fall and start signing up for classes soon. I have to take physci 107 next quarter or I won't be considered a physiological science major at all.

Right now, I am still debating whether I want to stay in the major or switch to MCDB. I've heard a lot about physiological science, but I have yet to hear much on anything about MCDB. Is there anyone out there who can give me insight into the major? I've taken LS 2-4 already and I found LS 2 was okay. I guess the material was interesting, but the competition was just too much (although I did pretty well in the course). On the other hand, I took LS3 and though I found the material more challenging, it was more acceptable to me because everyone seem to have mellowed out in the course, as compared to LS 2.

I just want to know how hard is MCDB. Is it doable? Does LS 3 reflect the major?

If I do end up switching into MCDB, my planned classes would be:

MCDB 104 AL with P. Lee
MCDB 138 with Lyons
Vietnamese 100A

Does this schedule look okay?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

I was wondering if you can share your experieces with LS3. Sorry to ask you this. How hard is it and how many hours do you usually put per week? Is the class curve?

For me, LS 3 wasn’t as bad as people made it out to seem. Before I took the class, everyone told me it was the hardest of the LS series and that I would have to study a lot for it. In actuality, I didn’t study as much as I thought I would. I just memorized all of the slides two days before the exam. But it’s straight studying though, from when I woke up until the time of the exam. I’m not sure of your study habits so I’m not sure how I should advise you on this.

I took Dr. Lin for this class. I heard Dr. Johnson, who taught it the same time Dr. Lin did, was a lot easier. The class average was like 80% or something. My class average was around 70% -75%. The final, however, was extremely difficult. I think that’s what caused a to of people’s grades to tank. The class is curved though. So just keep yourself on top of the curve and you’ll be fine. XD
