Yes. We were told they will not make a decision until they have first semester grades. D21 also has to wait until late January to put in grades. She knows some students who put in their estimated semester grades, but she is not willing to take that chance.

Which school is she applying to? My son applied to both Arts and Science, and was only accepted for Arts; he needs to provide midyear grades for Science when they’re available.

She applied to both and uploaded 1st quarter grades. Says “Ready for Review.”

Hi! If your son has Instagram please tell him to follow @mcgilluni2025 . This page will help him connect with future McGill classmates! Thanks and congratulations on the acceptance!

Update - PDF letter posted a couple of hours after portal update, and then email came through another few hours after that

I submitted my app in October and after I submitted my self-reported grades (I’m a U.S. student), my application said “Ready for Review” for a couple months. I got an email from McGill yesterday indicating that new documentation is required. When I logged onto my portal, my decision said “Further Review Required” and in the checklist it said “Clarification required: did you write other SAT subject tests?” I was only able to take one due to COVID, but I did not think that they were required this year. I officially sent the scores of all of the tests I have taken (ACT, APs, SAT subject test), so I am wondering why this clarification was needed. Did anyone else get a similar message? Or does anyone have any idea for what this might mean?

My understanding is that you have to either submit SAT/ACT + 2 subject tests or go completely test optional - but definitely confirm with them. Good luck!

Thank you! I was confused because on their website it says:

"Standardized Tests (Test Optional for Fall 2021):

  • ACT, or
  • SAT and two SAT Subject Tests (Subject Tests must include Math, and any other subject)."

So, I thought that you only had to submit subject tests if you were applying with the SAT and not ACT, but I might have read that incorrectly. I guess I’ll see what they say!

Which faculties did you apply to?

You are correct. As long as you submitted the ACT subject tests are not required. Call Service Point to let them know.

I applied to Desautels and the Faculty of Science

Ok, thank you! Will do. Why do you think they asked if I had taken others since I had already sent my ACT scores?

this is a confusing time for admissions people at all universities. Does the checklist indicate that the ACT was received?

U.S. students must self-report transcript/grades, which is apparently new for this year. Does anyone happen to know if you are able to self-report grades for classes up through the end of 11th grade, and add first semester 12th grades scores once they come out? It seems like an applicant would be at a disadvantage without admissions having any info at all wrt grades if it’s necessary to wait until the end of January, when first semester reports are out.

Yes, I sent my ACT score officially and in the checklist it says it was received about three months ago

There was an update saying that in the absence of an SAT subject test a high score on certain AP tests could be used in its place. Something else you could discuss with service point.

It is pretty typical for US students to be asked for the their first semester grades. Our suburban Boston HS didn’t get the grades available until the second week of February. In both instances, my kids had their acceptances just days after uploading the semester grades. Hopefully it will be that way this year for kids who are applying. (FWIW: my son graduates this spring from McGill (BA - Econ Major, Poli Sci minor). In spite of COVID times, he has had a fantastic experience. Good luck!
