McGill Decisions Class of 2021 (entering 2017)

@klb222 congratulations!!

Thanks, @CosmicMaria!

Does anyone know the number of McGill’s admissions office? I haven’t received my first semester grades because it doesn’t end until the end of January, so I uploaded my first quarter grades but they said “Wrong document.” Not sure if I should wait until the end of the semester or…?

GENERAL ADMISSIONS … 514-398-7878 | Fax: 514-398-5544 per Google

@nervousgal My S (U.S. high school) uploaded his first quarter grades in November. In December many U.S. students including my S were asked to upload his first semester grades. Like you, this means the end of January. So I think they just want you to upload those when you get them at the end of the month. Good luck!

what does it mean if your application was reviewed and the decision is pending? does it mean rejected?

My S applied last Saturday, ordered his ACT and SAT results the same day, then uploaded his high school transcript (including his 1Q grades) last Monday. He received an acceptance to both the Faculty of Arts and the Faculty of Science on Thursday night - only 3 days later. :-* He’s very happy, and especially with the quick response.

P.S. My S is a U.S. high school student.

Sorry, correction. My S was accepted to both Faculty of Arts and Faculty of Arts & Science, not Faculty of Arts and Faculty of Science. Trying to get accurate information out there to you. Thought it was worth correcting.

@MANVMom2016 what were his grades like and his SAT/ACT scores?

I just got admitted! I’m an international student and I applied to the faculty of arts. I completed the IB examinations in May 2016, and scored a 40

I’m a US student - I submitted my application on November 16th for Faculty of Science (BSc Biol, Biomed & Life Sci) and Faculty of Engineering (2nd Choice B Eng Chemical) and still have not heard back! I applied to Univ of Toronto on the same day and heard back December 7th (accepted). I check the application portal quite frequently and I know I have everything submitted, but it’s just weird to see people hear back 3days after applying! Should I be worried at all?

It is my understanding that if an applicant exceeds all parameters but some margin, “early” admission is offered. B-) If the numbers are close to last year’s thresholds, I bet they hold off at least until all the applications are closed. Think about it?! Is not that a rational strategy?

One more detail to consider: SAT scoring is new this year so no one really knows how that will impact admissions.

Hi @ap828, my S’s ACT was 33 composite and 4.3 weighted GPA (his high school doesn’t provide unweighted GPA. Except for 2 B+s his Sophomore year, he has A’s across the board, including 3 A’s from middle school (he took Algebra 1HN and Geometry 1HN and high school French in middle school), and all A’s so far this year (Senior Year) 1Q and will have for 2Q as well). The highest GPA ever achieved in his high school was a 4.4. He has 11 AP classes total, including 6 being taken this year. Hope this helps. Good luck to you!

I applied to Arts on December 18th, uploaded my Q1 results on January 6th, and just now, my application has changed from “Further Review Required” to “Reviewed - Decision Pending”. I’m really starting to get anxious about this entire process, but I am doing my best.

SAT I (breakdown): Math 710, Writing 800, Reading 800
ACT: N/A
SAT II: US History 790, Math 1 740
Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): Not provided by school
Weighted GPA: 91.34
Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): Not provided
AP (place score in parenthesis): U.S. History (5), Environmental Science (5)
IB (place score in parenthesis): N/A
Senior Year Course Load: AP Stats, English 12, Physics, Economics (H), Business, Pre-Calc
High school in Canada? (yes, no): No. US high school.

With people having already been accepted, I’m now somewhat afraid about “Decision Pending”, and I hope that I am just looking into it too much.

I’m in the same boat as you @Rukoki
GPA: 91.74
ACT: 30
On Monday my status changed from Ready to Review to Reviewed Decision Pending. It’s terrifying and I haven’t been able to find any info that indicates wether I’ll hear back next week or next month. All I know is it’ll be by March. Not sure if this was helpful but know you are not alone in that boat!

I submitted my application on November 16th. Recently, my application status changed to Further Review Required. And a space for me to submit my semester grades appeared… What does this mean? Is it similar to being deferred? I am a US student with a 4.2 W GPA and 31 ACT, so my stats aren’t the greatest for McGill and I’m extremely worried. Applying for Faculty of Management.

McGill does not defer. They want to see your mid year report. Your ACT is just above the minimum for last year of 30.

@editr17 Yeah, it is quite nerve wracking. I’m somewhat ambivalent about my Q1 results, but my Q2 results, which I have not sent in, are AAAA. I’m wondering if sending those in would change anything, but then again, I will not get them until February, and I’m not sure if they will already make a decision by that time.

@Rukoki Definitely upload the Q2 results as soon as they become available. My understanding from admissions is they do multiple passes through applications. For U.S. students, they tend to want to see the full first semester grades. (This is in general…definitely not in every case.) You have strong numbers…keep the faith!
