@confusedjunior89 If they didn’t request mid year grades you don’t have to upload them. Do only what it is telling you. And congratulations on getting in!
Update, I submitted my mid year grades yesterday and was admitted pending final results to Faculty of Arts today!!
I’m applying to faculty of arts and my Minerva status just changed to Further Review Required saying that I need “Mid yr/second quarter grades.” Even though the semester ended today, my official report card won’t be done for at least a week. Should I wait for then or just summit a screenshot of my grades from my school’s grade portal today since the grades will be the same?
@cinnaboniver Last year my son waited until he could upload a transcript/report card. They turned around an answer pretty quickly once he uploaded them.
@daintydaisies Congrats! That is wonderful news.
Accepted to Management today! US high school, 4.42/4 gpa (3.99 UW), 35 ACT
@cinnaboniver we are in the same boat. Midterms ended today, grades aren’t due until Feb. 1. I’m hoping for a quick turnaround as well.
@SwimmingDad How did you know you had to upload mid semester grades? There’s no change on my status on Minerva, it just says ‘Ready For Review’ but I got a general e-mail as a reminder to upload all my documents and senior year grades. So I’m confused if this was just a general e-mail and since there’s no change on Minerva, I simply wait?
I’m doing A levels so my mid-sem grades arent that great but I am pretty sure the finals are going to be way better so I’m reluctant to send them in.
I’m a little confused about how housing works. The website is telling me it costs around $15000 a year. Is this accurate? Are there any cheaper options, since the combined cost of housing and tuition brings it up to about the same cost as Northeastern. Would getting a place somewhere in Montreal be cheaper?
Also, is there a way to establish Quebec residency as an American so I can get the lower tuition?
@confusedjunior23 Tuition is based on immigration status, not residency. Those are Canadian dollars and the current exchange rate is about .81.
@oreos_m My son knew to upload his grades because in the section of Minerva (sorry I’m doing this from memory) that showed his other documents there was a new line item that said Mid Year grades and had a link to do so. If you are unsure, call admissions. You may have to wait a bit on hold but we found them to be very useful.
@confusedjunior89 Housing costs vary a bit. Here’s a chart for 2017. 2018 will be up in Feb:
https://www.mcgill.ca/students/housing/fees-applying/undergrad-downtown-fees
Cost of room and board drops significantly second year when you move off campus…unless you go to one of the expensive apartments. Room and board at McGill is definitely a bit pricey; but I think living on campus first year is a good way to develop community. Also remember everything on the website is in Canadian dollars. The exchange rate is .81 right now.
I’m an American student that was just admitted. The tuition for the faculty of arts is great compared to other out of state tuitions in the US, but the price of housing is enormous! Does anyone have any ideas on how to bring the price of housing down (scholarships, bursaries, cheaper alternatives, etc)?
@Meganbtaylor I just checked on the website. Room and board for a double room in Upper Rez (traditional dorm) is C$14,479. At the current exchange rate that would be US$11,728. That is about $4000 cheaper than similar accommodations at Northeastern or Boston University.
There are merit scholarships available with a separate application. Need based aid is available but limited. Again, a separate application.
@Meganbtaylor My son is a U0 in Faculty of Arts. Room and Board at McGill are somewhat expensive. However, all students move off campus to apartments starting second year. You will be able to save quite a bit when you do that. That said, I do think living in a dorm the first year is a good idea to help you find your community within the university. My son is in Upper Rez and has really found it to be a great experience.
@writergirl0316 @ShrimpBurrito Thanks. I think I’ll try to create a pdf from my portal
Do you think I would be able to screenshot my second-marking period grades in my school’s grading portal? It will have my classes, the letter grade, and the number grade, no updated GPA or official business. I honestly just want to get in and am sick of waiting. It will be another 2-3 weeks until I can get a semester report.
Call admissions and ask them.
@lesjubilants I’m in the same position. The only problem I see with it is that my updated GPA and class rank won’t be considered in my scholarship application.
Thank you! I hadn’t converted the prices into US dollars yet, so this was helpful. I really hope I’ll be able to afford to go; this seems like a wonderful university. It’s too bad I can’t get US federal aid, though. It leaves my hands a bit tied financially. I was going to apply for the bursaries that they offer. Does anyone know the average aid that they might give for a family of 3 at $62,000/yr income? Does it differ since I’m an international student?
