Decison: Waitlist

Any chance my D will get cleared from the waitlist? Seems unlikely. She got accepted into U of T right away. Disappointing.

@missunitedkates Like @TomSrOfBoston I find your waitlist to Arts puzzling. I would even submit that something is amiss - especially for a full-pay candidate. Personally I would contest that determination based on what I see of other admitted Arts students here, including my own son, who didn’t have stats like yours.

@missunitedkates I am surprised by your waitlist, though of course I don’t know all the ins and outs of your application. Did you have a 3.9 GPA for gr. 10, 11, and 12? AP courses?
I wonder if rigor, and perhaps the reputation of the HS, is valued a lot by McGill admissions? S1 didn’t have the highest GPA, but had a lot of AP’s(12), and goes to a highly ranked public HS here in MN.
@missunitedkates The waitlist seems surprising. McGill bases it’s decisions on unweighted grades for 10, 11, 12 - academic classes only. (PE, Art, Photography, etc. do not count). Recalculate your GPA. If it is still high I would call admissions. (Clearly your ACT score is way above the minima.) Good luck.
Scholarship is still in progress, which I know doesn’t mean rejection, but is frustrating nonetheless.
In other news, the residence application is out now: http://www.mcgill.ca/students/housing/fees-applying/undergrad-admissions. Something I found interesting was that you get preference in housing whether you get the renewable or one-year scholarship, not just renewable. I wonder if that will apply to scheduling preferences, too.

Pleasantly surprised by my admission. My intended major is computer science, and I’m considering studying CS in the faculty of arts since it’s ~20k/year cheaper. But I’m wondering if there will be a negative connotation with a BA degree among software engineering employers.
@missunitedkates I am surprised that you got waitlisted and I am sorry that you won’t be able to attend. If I may ask, when did you apply (not just the original application, but the completed, whole application including your transcript and tests scores)?
@Omegadoug @57special @damiller27 @SwimmingDad
My GPA was highest freshman year, and I don’t take a fine art or get grades for gym, so it comes out to about a 3.88 with just 10, 11, 12. I think part of it might be that I only took 1 AP in high school - however, I chose instead to take Honors courses that my (small-but-selective private) school considers equal rigor to an AP.
I applied Sept. 1, and submitted test scores the following week. I got FRR in December, and sent semester grades on Jan. 21 I think.
My counselor offered to send McGill information about my high school (no weighting GPA, few APs, etc.) but they declined. I’m meeting with her today to see what my next step(s) should be. Thank you all for the support - sometimes admissions just doesn’t go our way and every curve has some outliers. Good luck to y’all!
@yesasan1 My application never changed from Further Review Required after I uploaded my grades. I had to wait six weeks to get a decision but I was accepted so just wait patiently, it’ll probably work out. Believe me I was in the exact same situation
@jm18271 Would you mind sharing what Faculty you applied to and your ballpark stats? It seems like a lot of students have received decisions from Faculty of Arts but not so much from some other faculties. Thank you!
anyone know if waitlist is typically a good/hopeful thing at mcgill? do a lot of people usually get accepted from it or is it basically a no…
Decison: Accepted!
Faculty: Arts

UW GPA: 4.0

I took community college classes for dual credit throughout high school because no APs were offered.
Any non-US or non-Canadian students accepted? About 10 people in my school have applied (Europe) and nobody has heard back yet. Most of us applied in November and submitted mid-term grades 3 weeks ago.
The process is very random
@chrys1 I am international and didn’t hear back as well. I think our decisions will come around mid March/April

@chrys1 We are from the US. My son heard from McGill yesterday, he was wait listed and will be advised by April/May for final decision.
When should I expect to hear back about major undergraduate entrance scholarships? My application has been “under review” for a while now and I was accepted in early February.
