McGill decisions thread!!

crazychai...what was inside?? i'm still waiting :(

okay they sent u 2 things. first it's this mid-sized envelope with like ur letter of acceptance and setting up Quebec ID or something. and for me it also explained why i didn't get a scholarship. then there's this other package that contains 2 booklets. one is relatively thin and just tells u the basics, registering procedures and what not. then there's the HUGE thick undergrad calendar w/ all the courses, departments, and everything

i only got the big package with the two booklets.
i didn''t get the mid-sized envelope thing with the letter of acceptance and ID set up.
which did you get first?

i got them both today. i saw the big package and i was ooooooooohing and ahhhhhhhing then i saw this brown midsized thing and i oooohed and ahhhhhed some more

My D. ( Arts and Sciences ) received only the big package, but there were three booklets. First, Welcome to McGill: The essential guide for new students, which is general school information and MTL information.

Second, International Student Services: Your home away from home, which has all the necessary info and forms to obtain required immigration approvals and the Quebec Acceptance Certificate for Studies (CAQ) and a Study Permit. You have to submit proof of financial ability. We havent read it yet, but being from Vermont, it should not be too hard. (After all many others have done it.) This VERY helpful book also describes how to wire funds to CA, the compulsory health insurance and introduces the student to the International Student Services.

Last was the BIG book of Undergraduate Programs.

Ironically, we have not received a formal letter of acceptance or the small package yet. But since the large package was mailed from Buffalo, maybe the "official" letter will come today.

Anyway, I am so proud of my D. This was her first, and only, choice and I welcome any excuse to visit MTL. Congrats to you all.

Chuck

Okay, the brown mid-sized package, with the official letter just came in the mail this morning- but I let my daughter open her own mail (g).

Chuck

good call, i got really mad when my mom opened my stuff. REALLY mad.

congrats on your d getting in :)

hey, just got back from vacation and checked my status online...i got into management. i'm pretty happy and hope to get the package with all the info tomorrow in the mail. congrats everyone!

OMG I GOT REJECTED FROM DUKE!!!!! i'm one step closer to going to mcgill!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lalalala so happy!!!!! really should be sad but i'm weird like that

Hi! 1300/800/800/800/700 (hispanic multinational) TOEFL 273
Accepted at WUSTL, Middlebury, NYU, Tufts, Hamilton, Trinity (CT), GWU (DC), Connecticut College....

WAITLISTED AT MCGILL!!! >>>>???

It's not my first choice anyway (WUSTL or Midd). I filled the application as "undeclared major" in Faculty of Arts...

Crazy: I am a graduate of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. If you know American colleges, you know what we think of Dookies. Believe me, you have been saved from a fate worse than death. Count your blessings, and
practise your French.

Chuck

LMAO!!! thanks mcgilldad! what do ppl think of dookies? lol i don't think i've heard this.

I what to know what you guys think of dookies too! 15 more days until McGill decisions come out for Ontario students! fingers crossed

Dont take me too seriously, UNC-CH is the big rival of Duke University, they are located about 9 miles apart. Dookies have the rep of being "preppies" or "yuppies" with fancy cars and name brand clothes, but you can find any type you want at a large college. Duke students are excellent, many are from the NE US. The weather is great in North Carolina, but if you are used to a large cosmopolitan city, you could be disappointed.

Durham NC, where Duke is located is a working city with some poor areas. Chapel Hill, where UNC is located is a great college town. Duke is a beautiful campus.

Chuck

o gosh...so i got rejected from yale today too....this i'm actually quite sad about. so if anybody would like to share what ppl think of yalies, please share it. well now i'm even closer to attending mcgill! yeehaw!!!

yale has a horrible, horrible campus. does that make you feel any better? I'm kidding. I'm sure Yale is great school, but they can make bad decisions sometimes too. They'll be sorry when you go to McGill and prove to be a very valuable asset. I'm glad that you're closer to going to McGill though!

mcgilldad-i went to visit duke last year and it was pretty isolated and quiet. basically, typical surburbia. but we also passed by UNC-CH and it was quite festival :)

bittersweet-aw thanx for the great try! but ya i'm happy i'm closer to going to mcgill too! nothing like heading back home!!

lalala so i'm gonna stop being sad and angry and going back to my mcgill groove. o hey for canadians in the US, how r u guys working out ur insurance stuff? do we have to buy the international package or something? or can we just go back to our old free healthcare programs funded by the very considerate government of canada?

I got into the Science and Arts, but not into Faculty of Arts and Science. Which is weird, because I thought that I would definetly be in with a 1490 SAT and 97.5 GPA. I don't really care though because I'm definetly not doing science. I really want to go to Georgetown SFS, but McGill is so tempting because of its price!! Only $4000 tuition compared to $28000! I have a few questions:

Does anyone know about the MIddle Eastern Studies major or International Studies minor??

How are foreign languages taught??

How much would an apartment in the area cost??

Duke, Cornell, or McGill??? I need to make a decision and it's going to be very very hard. I like all 3 a lot and I'd love to hear what everyone would pick if you were in my shoes.
Thanks!

I'M IN!!!!!! YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYmooooooohafoiehwaofihwaofh :Dddddddddddddddd

does anybody know when i'll find out about major entrance scholarhships?

the decision panel is blank.. :(
