McGill for American Students

I am an American student who was admitted to McGill University’s combined Bachelor of Arts& Sciences program, as well as the Faculty of Arts. I was admitted to top tier American universities, but I like the idea of not drowning in debt and also going to college in Montreal (my mom is French Canadian and I love the culture). As of now, I’m stuck between the honors program at the University of Florida and McGill.

For recognition, research opportunities, and location, McGill is my top choice. However, I’m worried about the different systems (I’m used to the idea of the American university social life). Any other American students going to McGill? How do you all feel about it?

McGill does not provide a cloistered academic or residential community. You will be living off campus after first year most likely in the Milton Parc area (the Ghetto) or the Plateau. McGill social life is not that much different from other large urban universities in the US. It would be very different from what you would experience in a college town like Gainesville though.

Thanks! This helps a lot. I actually really like the idea of living off campus after the first year so that’s a plus
