so what about McGill vs Grinnell for departments like econ/political science/east asian studies? Also I might be wrong, but not a very large percentage of McGill students go to grad school, can anyone confirm this? What about applying to top US grad schools from McGILL, would good recs be hard to get due to large classes?

I went to a McGill rendezvous last night in NYC. The alums that were in attendance were nearly all in grad school: NYU and Columbia. If the percentage of McGill student going on to grad school is low - and I don't know if it is - it may be because of the size of the school itself.

And having those in presence being in NYU and Columbia is a good sign as to what schools view McGill as.

I'm sorry, what's your point? Are you hinting that they only had NYU/Columbia grad students there - because that was not the case. I neglected to mention that there was a lovely young man attending St. John's MBA program.

My point is that better NYU and Columbia than CUNY or SUNY grad students. One would hope that if you saw several Columbia students, it would be a sign that McGill is respected at schools of that caliber.

^Thanks, I was hoping that was what you meant!

hey happyJanez
ummm
i think ur wrong
well im pretty sure alot of them go to grad school

and
mcgill is comparably 100 times better than grinnel in probably most every dept.

im not sure where ur getting ur info
but
one thing i can tell u is that in the
Times Higeher Education Supplement magazine
McGill is ranked 21 in the top 200 best universities in the WORLD

You have to make your own choice here.
McGill is not for everyone as Columbia is not for everyone. Look to the program you are seeking, the future you are seeking.
My son began applying to Columbia and decided it was not for him and so he is at McGill-McGill was his first choice. And he is very very happy there and I have no doubt , nor does he, that McGill was the right choice.
But you have to determine what is best for you.

just because you saw two students from top grad schools doesn't mean a thing. there are 20,000 undergraduates at mcgill and if someone could find info on where a big chunk of those students go, that would be nice.

grinnell X 20= mcgill (student size)
mcgill X 2= grinnell (endowment)

...just something to think about

well student 1
basically, all i ever hear is that mcGill is a TOP feeder school for TOP grad schools inside and outside the US
so
those 2 at columbia were not jsut coincidental.
