McGill University '25 (entering fall '21) for US students - thoughts? doubts? stats? results?

We had the same issue and I think my daughter had to do what worked and not necessarily what made sense. We have quarters this year but double length classes so she submitted her first quarter which was three classes ( but full semester) grades

I hope so. My DD got an acceptance from U of T in Arts and Science program at Trinity, but is eagerly waiting to hear from MCGill. Does anyone expect to hear any news before MCGill closes for the winter break?

Was hoping too to maybe hear something by today… very stressful! I wish they would just have a set date for first round! What did your daughter apply too?

DD first choice is B.A. &Sc. and second choice is B.A. I hope she will hear from both programs around the same time, but not sure how that works. What program is your daughter applying to?

Arts and then arts and science and she also did business

Hope to hear soon. Good luck!

My daughter’s first choice is McGill too. It is so hard with all the US schools sending out acceptances now. I can tell my daughter is anxious.
We heard from Queen’s this week so we were really hoping to hear from McGill too.

Yes, US schools sending out acceptances this week has been tough for my daughter, too. My daughter had 4 SAT exams cancelled, so going test optional adds to the anxiety and uncertainty.

It is difficult to see these incredibly accomplished kids doubting themselves after all the hard work they have put in. My daughter had mulitple SAT exams cancelled too.
I have heard stories of kids flying cross country to test centres that were open. There is a lot of pressure on these kids. Nice to be able to share experiences, concerns and insights on a forum like this.

If this can calm anybody down a bit: our D was accepted to Pomona ED1. This college is custom-made for her, a long-held dream. But the joy lasted for about 3 minutes, until we opened the FA letter. Our middle-class family would have to go into debt to send her there, despite or maybe because of a nice 529. A B.A. for $300k? Hell, no!
That’s why McGill is and will be the shining city on the hill. Great education without family starvation! Well worth waiting.

Cost is a HUGE dilemma with US schools. We live in the US but we are Canadian. There are so many amazing universities in Canada that offer world class educations.
Just wish my daughter was more excited about them but she does not get to hear much about them living in the US. McGill is the only school she had a chance to tour before everything shut down.

My son goes to queens and LOVES it! Are you US High school? My daughters first choice is McGill and all other schools were US- they are dual citizens! QUEENS has been a great fit for my son- balanced social and academics and Kingston is such a cute college town…

US high school in Northeast. My daughter has applied to both US and Canadian schools.
I think Queen’s is an amazing school and such a beautiful campus. I will definitely send you any questions we have. Thank you!!
My daughter really wants an urban environment and a big school. She has very specific criteria, oh my!!!
Are you East or West coast? This is such an usual, stressful, crazy time with issues like pass/fail on top of cancelled tests. I keep hoping this is just going to make my kids more resilient and flexible.

We are in Oregon! A bit far from
Montreal! She too has quite the criteria of what she wants in a school- McGill looks like a good fit though, fingers crossed they won’t care about the pass fail! Not much we could do about that!

MackClan5, we sound like the same person. My daughter goes to school in the US Northeast and has applied to both US and Canadian schools. We are Canadian, my husband went to Queens and I went to Ottawa U for Undergrad. I would love for my daughter to go to a Canadian school! Many of her friends haven’t heard of the Universities in Canada, so she feels uneasy and not sure what she wants. She loves Montréal and skiing at Tremblant, so that certainly helps.

Congratulations on the Pomona acceptance! The first hurdle is getting in, but then you have to figure out how to pay for it! McGill is worth the wait—stellar reputation!

@MackClan5 @BT2021 I think we all sound the same! My husband went to UVIC I am American but all my kids are dual and I have a son at queens. Let’s keep in touch! All have daughters mine is applying for either
Management and sustainability
Sustainability, science and society
Or environmental studies in arts!

Yes, we seem to have a lot in common.
My daughter applied to Queen’s, but her portal says “Decision: Pending. Maybe she didn’t get in during the first wave of decisions, but we didn’t expect to hear until January. The waiting is hard…

McGill graduates are heavily recruited in the US for Computer science. We are in the Bay Area and have friends at the FAANGs. They all recruit in McGill

Well let’s keep in touch when anyone hears let us know!!
