McGill University '25 (entering fall '21) for US students - thoughts? doubts? stats? results?

My daughter’s Minvera stated Items Outstanding last week in regards to her SATs. She added what they were looking for, and her status changed to Ready for Review. Today she checked, and now it says Further Review Required. Looking on their site, they explain that to mean:

" An admissions officer has reviewed your file and has requested additional information (the requested information has been added to your Minerva checklist).

Please verify your Minerva checklist and submit the requested information as soon as possible; this information is required before an admission decision can be made. Please submit ONLY what has been requested. Do not submit, or ask others to submit, any additional documents, including reference letters, personal statements, or extracurricular information. Additional documents may slow the processing of your file and will not increase your chances of admission.

Applicants are responsible for monitoring the status of their own application. When [providing documents], please do so in the precise manner described. Applicants failing to complete their files run the risk of file cancellation.

When all required checklist items on in Minerva show as “Received”, your file will undergo a further review by an admissions officer."

There is nothing that is showing as required in her Minerva. Anyone know what this could mean? Do they need something else?

Hi friends! I was accepted to Faculty of Arts pending final results today. 3.5 unweighted, 34 ACT, 720 SAT II US History, and a 4 on AP World. Good luck all!

hello everyone! american student (dual citizen US-canada) applying to faculty of engineering (bioengineering). completed an application in late november and self-reported grades and test scores in early december. 35 act (33 math, 36 science, 36 reading, 36 english), 105.6 weighted gpa, class rank 1/521, and 9 ap exams (physics 1 (5), chemistry (5), lang and composition (5), world history (5), french (5), biology (5), human geo (5), environmental science (5), and US history (4)). status just changed today to reviewed-decision pending, which according to the website indicates that the application was more competitive than those rejected so far but less competitive than those accepted. anyone have similar experience? if so, how long until your application was accepted or rejected? thanks!

your stats seem amazing! I am actually surprised that someone like you would be considered “less competitive than those accepted”
btw I applied on oct. 2nd and sent my self-reported grades late November–my status has been “ready for review” since the beginning

hoping for the best for you!! i suppose we’ll just have to wait it out and see what happens!

Congrats! Can you share your stats! ?

Congratulations! Were you test optional?

My D ( dual citizen but US HS) is a U2 in BioEng. She started in 2019 (had enough AP to be considered U1). Her stats were like yours…ACT 35, SAT 1560 and 4.0 UW (15 AP). She went from “further review require” to “review decision pending” and a week later, she got accepted. Your stats are great but BioEng is one of the toughest to get in (with Desautels, of course). Be patient, it is likely matter of days before you get accepted! I remember how stressed we all were! Good luck!

when did you apply?

thank you so much for your response! i really appreciate hearing your experience and it helps quite a bit with what to expect, especially seeing how similar our situations are. how has your daughter found the bioengineering program at McGill, if you don’t mind? i haven’t had a chance to talk with anyone specifically associated with that program yet. thank you and have a great rest of your day!

Yes I was test optional

I applied in November

One other question? Are you an east coast high school ? Trying to get a sense of how acceptances are going…

No I go to a high school on the west coast

oooh! sorry I applied dual BA/BS which would only end up being around $18k a year for me. I did hear that things like BS/Eng/Business are much more

So, remember that she started in fall 2019 and in March, was back home in NC.
As her classes started to specialize, she was looking forward to more in-person and hands-on labs which have been virtual so far this year.
Also, CDN universities have less Greek life and sports culture to the American counterparts. She was not looking for any of this.
It is a very rigorous curriculum and she feels she is being prepared well. She is working lots but loves it. She had an internship locally this last summer (virtually of course) which confirmed her choice and path!
She also wanted a diverse city which MTL offers. And, as a parent, you can’t beat the cost!

My portal just changed from “ready to review” to “further review required”. I need to upload my mid-year grades but I do not know if that means the grades I currently have, or if I need to wait until my next grading period (4 weeks from now).
