McGill vs. GW

I got accepted to both schools but I really don't know where I want to go. I plan to do business studies with a major in marketing. Both programs seem to be very good but I was wondering a few things:

Which has the smallest classes? I hear McGill has up to 400 people classes :/

Best college life?

Which could be the best school to study marketing at? GW does not have a marketing major but a really good business program with a focus on marketing and other subjects.

Both schools are very appealing but I can't make up my mind. If anyone could help me make my decision it'd be great :)

Go to McGill… GWU isnt worth the money that you’re gonna spend on their tuition. McGill is ranked a lot higher than GWU in any world universities ranking systems.

Class size at McGill in the Desautels Faculty of Management would not exceed 100 students, and that would be in freshman year. Arts electives like economics may have 200 students in introductory courses. The BIG classes you hear about at McGill are in science. Upper level courses will have 20 to 60 students.

GWU would likely have smaller classes in liberal arts electives but freshman classes at GWU could still be in the 100 to 200 range.

What are your finances? Did you get significant grant money from either school?

GWU and Washington are known for public admin/poly sci but not for business.

Both Washington and Montreal are great cities for a student but quite different obviously. I would say Montreal is better but I’m biased.

Hey Olivier123 congrats on being accepted to both schools. Financial Times ranks McGill 95th this year (for business) with a average weighted salary of $83,435 for alumni. GW is ranked 57th with an average weighted salary of $104,571. Obviously rankings aren’t everything so try to visit the campuses and speak to alumni etc… See where you feel more at home. Montreal is a busy city with a good night life (drinking age is lower too!) but personally I hate the French Canadian accent. Good luck!

ahhh i’m in the exact same situation help!!!

i have the same problems too but i am studying international relations so its obvious that GW has a better program. For business? DC is a good place for politics…but businesses usually tend to stay away from political capitals (internships and companies and such)…and montreal will give u opportunities to work at canadian companies as well as American companies and even some European ones since Montreal is very diverse…so if I were studying business I would go to Mcgill for sure.

Luckily, money’s not a problem but I’m sure my parents would be happier with me if I chose McGill (they’d save about 250K).

@tomofboston: I read one of your threads and I see you know a lot about McGill. Where you in the faculty of management? How was it?

@chrisusna2014: Thanks for your input. However these are the stats for grad studies. Good luck at the Navy.

Oh and I forgot to mention I also got into American University and Northeastern, which are both ranked higher than GW and McGill. So my decision is pretty tough.

Thanks to all for you help

Oliver123:

American and Northeastern are ranked higher than McGill??? What rankings are you looking at? As a Canadian school, McGill is not ranked in USNews.

Yes, I am a McGill management alumnus. See my thread under McGill for more info.

McGill has a fantastic reputation, while GWU is considered overpriced and mediocre. DEFINITELY McGill!!

No contest, this. McGill all the way.
