So I'm a class of 2008 kid who's been accepted already to McGill and is hoping to be accepted at GWU. I'd love to hear anyone's thoughts on the various strengths/weaknesses of the schools. I'm going in as a Linguistics/IR major, not sure between the two but I'll figure it out. I'd love to hear what people have to say about the:
1)academics
2)prestige (no I'm not choosing a school based on this, I'm just curious so don't jump on me haha)
3)social life
4)any other valuable information

I would say McGill has the edge in terms of academics (unless you wish to major in International Relations), prestige and quality of/social life.

McGill has stronger overall academics, but GWU is better for IR and politics. If that's what you're interested in, go to GWU.

Montreal and DC are both fun, vibrant cities with plenty of night life options. In Montreal you'd be legal at 18, but in DC...fake IDs aren't hard to find.

I adore McGill, but I'm going to give the edge to GWU - DC is the place to be for IR opportunities.

Academically, McGill's faculty is one of the very best. It has top rated Engineering and Science programs. It is also very strong in the Social Sciences and Humanities. Furthermore, its top ranked Medical school gives it an international reputation hard to match.

As World Changer says, DC and Montreal are both nice cities, but as far as I am concerned, Montreal has a clear edge.

On of my sisters attended both schools and she always felt McGill was the better overall university.

However, if you wish to study International Relations, GWU is hard to beat.

Yeah they're both great schools. Such hard decisions! Hopefully I'll get into at least one of my two top picks and won't have to worry about it :)

Uhh, unless you seriously want to major in IR, McGill is the way to go. I'm applying to both, and GWU simply doesn't have the prestige, academics or social life that McGill does.

I have a friend who urged her son the attend Wash. U as the best school in St. Louis vs. Tufts as the 5th best school in the Boston area, with many Ivy League wannabes.
My bias, unfair as could be, is that GWU has many rich kids who couldn't get into Georgetown or The U of Penn. I wouldn't assume anything negative about attending McGill.

Well I'm strongly considering McGill...but it might imply that you couldn't get into an ivy here. But it is much better known/selevtive then George Washington. McGill's average SAT is a 1370, while George Washington's is a 1280. ACT's are a 30 vs. a 28.
