McGill vs UBC for Computer Science undergrad

hello!
I am an international student from India and have been accepted to the bachelor of science group: math, phys, earth and comp sci at McGill and to the faculty of science at UBC. I plan to major in Computer science. Which would be better?

is getting computer science at UBC after the end of first year difficult?
how are the internship/co-op programs of both the universities?
Which has better job opportunities - Montreal or Vancouver for CS graduates
How good is the reputation of UBC and McGill outside canada?

McGill does not offer a formal coop program. I am not sure about UBC. Montreal has become a major center for AI due to McGill and Université de Montréal.

McGill has a world wide reputation. UBC’s international reputation is primarily in Asia.

UBC has a very, very good CS faculty. It is a beautiful campus, and Vancouver is known for having a very large Indian population, if that matters to you. McGill’s CS is also very good, but might “rank” a tad lower. Both would have excellent international reputations. Neither is known for it’s Co-op programs. That is Waterloo’s forte. In these times, everything is up in the air, anyway. My eldest son(McGill BCOM student) has had his internships for this summer dry up.

If it was me I would strongly consider UBC, with the caution that UBC’s CS admit is getting tougher and tougher. If you are very confident in your abilities, and other things about the program and city appeal to you then go UBC. If you have any doubt in that area, then McGill and it’s sure admit to CS might be the better choice.

Both schools are known for their tough marking, relative to most American Unis. It is not uncommon for a class average to be in the 55-70% range in the more rigorous disciplines such as Science, ENG, BCOM, etc. at McGill, and I don’t think UBC is much, if any, easier.

I have been to both the building at McGill that house the CS program. One is an older building…kind of dreary. The other is modern, and quite nice. Haven’t been to the UBC CS building in person. Neither is as cool as Waterloo’s CS building, but that’s another story.

Congrats on your acceptances to two very good schools!
