Hi
i was wondering if Mcgill is a good school for computer science and is it internationally known as a good comp sci school?
will big name schools such as stanford, mit, berkeley know about mcgill comp sci when i apply for grad school?
thanks.
McGill is not known for comp sci. University of Toronto and the University of Waterloo are.
@bouders so if i went there, i would have less chance of landing a good job or getting into a good grad school like stanford if i went to mcgill than u of t or waterloo?
Waterloo has an excellent co-op program which really helps in obtaining jobs. U of T has an internship year which also helps with jobs.
Grad school depends more on your research potential and your connections. eg do you know a prof at your undergrad who knows someone at the grad university There are sooo many factors that contribute to success in finding a job or getting into a good grad school. Ultimately, the school where you will be most successful is where you should be. Visit each school and see where you would fit in.
I think for grad school, yes, be as successful as possible as an undergraduate. For job/career prospects, as an employer I would choose a successful grad from a better known comp sci program over a superstar from a uni less well known in the field. Having said that, however, solid job experience is most valuable.
ohh ok i see
