I have been anxiously waiting for my notification on which merit scholarship USC is going to give me, and I have been on these forums lately seeing how people are already getting their McNair weekend notifications in an envelope very similar to mine. At the same time, I have seen people who have recently (as in today) gotten envelopes that PR the Merit Scholars weekend invitation for this Friday and two later dates in April. I received the PR letter, and was wondering if this means I did not get the McNair Scholars Weekend Notification. Can anyone confirm or deny whether this means I am still eligible for McNair?
I’m not 100% but I think if you didn’t get McNair or Carolina Scholars (in state) but are a top student in Honors or Merit semifinalist you were invited to one of the other 2 weekends next month. McNair is the last weekend of the month. the letter comes Fedex
I received that letter as well but have not even heard from Honors College. I would assume at this point if you were a McNair weekender you would know by now. Were you already admitted to HC bb?
@Benno2016 my daughter was admitted to the HC long before she got her McNair envelope. I’d assume for sure that if you are a McNair finalist you are admitted to the HC. Maybe call them?
Expect to receive your scholarship info in March (at least that’s what happened last year)-- unless you are invited to the McNair/Horseshoe or Carolina weekend.
OOS Students who are receiving scholarships (not just Honors College students, as many more than those receive substantial merit awards) get a letter soon after acceptance to the university that says something like, “You will be awarded at least in-state tuition” or “a substantial tuition reduction” or something similar. Then in March, letters go out about whether you will receive Cooper, McKissick, Flinn, etc.
Honors College acceptances are separate from merit awards. Some HC acceptance letters went out in December and more will go out in February.
So is it now likely that if you were to be invited to McNair/Horseshoe weekend, you would have received your notice by now?
yes @Gr8One they are also sending rejection letters if you didn’t get invited to the weekend.
