And now I know who all of you are in person! haha go CC-ers
And I met your son, cathy, and we talked quite a bit the first night.
Fun story...I wound up becoming great friends with Texas girl who brang matt mexican food. crazzy. will tell you more later. :-) im tired....flights were a nightmare

GetOuttaBuffalo - glad to see you were able to get back into Buffalo with no weather problems, etc. It was fun talking to you. Remember to avoid the ice cream at the Columbia airport! :)

AcrossTheUniverse - Nice to meet you as well. Hope you got back to Dallas OK...I'll see you on Thursday at state!

betterdays - AVOID 83 AT ALL COSTS :) Hope your extra night in Columbia (which you are enjoying right now) is fun and that you have a good trip home! You missed quite a going away party at the airport! (Ok, so we sat around and talked about random stuff, but you still missed it...) See you around South Texas...if we both end up at USC, we shall bring back the Fiesta!

IdRatherBeSATing - I know I probably met you, but just to be sure, who were you exactly? I probably talked to you at length, too...I actually never brought up CC, but I figured out who the three above were pretty quick...haha. By the way, I was the one who was named Nathan :D

cathymee - I actually never met your son (I don't think)...I had a rather eventful flight in and ended up being the last person to come in on Saturday night. So I only got to go to the Strom for about 30 minutes or so.

Did I leave anyone out? If I did, I hope you had as great a weekend as I did! To all the other finalists, good luck! I hope your interviews went well, and (even though I know it's not possible) that everyone gets the big award!

Wait...GetOuttaBuffalo...were your flight problems weather-related? If so, I withdraw the first statement of that last post...haha

I actually had a rather uneventful flight home. The Houston airport was a nightmare (AGAIN!) but when is it not? At least my plane left on time and didn't have any engine troubles (though our gate was changed twice).

Once more, I had a great time! Everything was awesome! I'd like to give more details than I already have, but I think I really ought to get some sleep now before I collapse at my computer...

nathan
no,S doesnt remember meeting you..but your airport adventures explain that...he was on the climbing wall at the Strom with Texas girl and Brett the Admissions guy at that time of night. He wasnt involved with Sunday's activities at all unless you met him on the Maxcy tour.
Im so glad everyone enjoyed themselves, USC puts on quite a show.
How did the actual interviews go? What did everyone think of the campus? What did everyone's parents think,if that matters LOL.Did they feed you enough???

My interview went very well, I thought. And from what I heard, most others feel the same way. I guess the three girls in the student panel scared enough of us that we went into the interviews thinking we would get absolutely grilled.

I've been to the campus before, but I thought it was especially neat how they plan on significantly expanding the campus, but not the student body.

My mom has left the decision up to me, so she hasn't said a whole lot other than that she is glad the University area now has a nice place to stay.

I'll admit that I wasn't paying much attention to my food, for I was enjoying my panoramic view of Columbia atop Capstone, and listening to speakers like President Sorensen.

I concur with IdRatherBeSATing about the interview...we were scared (word I can't say on here)less, for lack of a better term. Then, the interviews turned out to not be so difficult after all. I actually had fun and learned a few interesting facts during my interview.

I really liked the Horseshoe area of campus. The northern area around Capstone and the Business School could be nicer, but it was still nice despite the functional architecture in those areas.

My dad was a bit afraid of the increased emphasis on research...he went to a major research university and wants me to have greater access to teachers than he did. I'm not sure if he fully understands that the honors college gives you greater access to the professors...how many times do I have to explain that to him? Other than that, he really enjoyed it.

The food was great, and it seemed like we were always eating!

cathymee - by the time I got to the Strom, your son, betterdays ("Texas girl"), and Brent the Admissions guy must have already been done rockclimbing. Like I said, I was only there for the last 30 minutes or so, so I just went around meeting people and talking.

It's great to see that everyone is as excited about the weekend as I still am. It was truly fantastic to meet all of you (and "lucky" Matt, too). I was incredibly impressed by everyone I met, ranging from the other McNairs to the University staff to the current students--everyone was so welcoming and friendly. Even the supposedly "stressful" part of the weekend--the interviews--ended up being a blast.

It was great talking to all of you and I can't wait to see you guys again (possibly at USC next fall??). Keep in touch!

cathymee- Thanks so much for all your help throughout this whole process, and thanks to your son (who I think we've all established was pretty much fantastic). The weekend was absolutely amazing, and now we're all on pins and needles waiting for the phone call.

And I feel pretty special that I have apparently officially gotten the moniker "Texas girl." Yay for me!

hey Texas girl...thanks for the compliment and "lucky" thinks you're pretty slick as well!!He's waiting for some more tamales....
I can't remember if the decision came by phone or mail but...good luck to all...
and whoever shows up at move-in next August,I'll look forward to meeting you.....

sorensons been calling yesterday and today...

maryTN, did i meet u at mcnair weekend? lol i remember there was a mom named mary from tn...oak ridge? if so i met u and ur daughter. woohoo i feel like i know all of CC now ahaa

No --I assume that is a list of those that have accepted the scholarship so far....as more scholars accept the award they should be added to the list. I know of plenty still deciding that are not on that list yet.

On another note....those bios are a little off:( Looks like USC took them from the application rather than from the form sent in with the scholarship acceptance. Seems like they need to have the students approve them before publishing so there is less chance of error or at least check them against the form they have you fill out for press release.
