When are we going to be notified about McNair interviews?

I got an invite to another school's interview weekend which is Feb 22-24, and I have to reserve my spot soon. But I heard that might be McNair weekend too (last weekend in Feb?). Ahhhh.

Get
I looked at the Spring 07 calendar for the current McNairs to see if there was a weekend marked off for the next round...there wasn't.
Last years was either the 2nd or 3rd weekend in Feb which puts it before the other one you were invited to.Try to be patient Im sure the invites are coming out any day now!! Dont forget, the invite alone to this one means you are GUARANTEED at least the finalist amount of funding..they only invite 40.
Keeping my fingers crossed for you and all the others for good news!!!!

I had found the date for the 07 interview weekend .. somewhere... I think it was in the paper application brochure. It has the interview weekend dates as 2/24 thru 2/26.

Thanks for starting this ...Buffalo. I think about it frequently. D is calm. I'm going crazy. Here's the info from the application.

** Each year, there are 50 Carolina Scholars finalists. All finalists are guaranteed $7,000 per year. Of the 50, the University will select up to 25 Carolina Scholars. These awards are valued at $40,000 total for four years of study ($10,000 per year). Only South Carolina residents are considered for Carolina Scholars awards.

Each year, there are 40 McNair Scholar finalists. All finalists are guaranteed $11,000 per year. Of the 40, the University will select up to 20 McNair Scholars. These awards are valued at $60,000 total for four years of study ($15,000 per year). Only applicants residing outside South Carolina will be considered for McNair Scholars awards.

Carolina and McNair Scholars candidates will be notified by the admissions office in early February. In-person interviews are required for further consideration. Carolina Scholars candidates must attend a campus visit and interview day from Sunday, February 18, through Monday, February 19, 2007, and McNair Scholars candidates must attend a campus visit and interview day from Saturday, February 24, 2007, through Monday, February 26, 2007. Travel expenses will be paid for the applicant and one parent for those who live outside South Carolina. **

Yikes GetOutta...
Looks like you may have a problem...timing is later than last years.
You may need to call and explain your difficulty and see if anyone will help you out with more information.

they tell you in the invite who to call to make your arrangements,in our case it was Heather Wheeler in the Admissions Office, and they used their own travel agent, who we dealt with directly as well as we added a second parent.
They covered all costs for the student and one parent, including picking up and delivering to the airport, transport around USC (by the famous shuttle buses) and all meals including Sunday Brunch at the top of Capstone. In hindsight, we might have rented a car,at least for one night so we could see more of Columbia. They keep you busy for the whole weekend and the kids got together after hours at the hotel. The actual interviews were on the Monday. If you also want to meet anyone in a department, they will accomodate you,S met with the Sports Management Dept, and several kids went to the Music Dep't and Drama Dep't.We had a campus tour, plus tours of Maxcy and Preston College.(S will be doing the Maxcy tours this time around!)They will send you a dress code list, there's a pretty fancy sit downdinner one night with faculty and bigwigs..including the USC President Dr Sorenson. The food was very good at all meals..they even fed us while kids were going off for their interviews!!
If you are lucky enough to attend, you will be blown away by the level of hospitality.

We were not the only ones who added a second parent, and plenty of people who drove in (from for example,North Carolina) brought both parents. They did not charge us any additional $$ for feeding the second parent. Its not an appropriate time to bring siblings.

My son was accepted to the HC on about 12/18, and he didn't get his application in until November 30, so we feel very fortunate.

Anyway, he joined the USC 2007 entering freshman "Myspace" group, and there is an HC folder on it where a few people have posted messages. Some are asking when they will hear about whether they have been accepted to the HC or not.

Someone from USC admissions posted an answer on about 1/7/07 saying that acceptance continue to the HC all the way through Feb.

In my way of thinking, this sort of improves the odds that all the kids who got accepted in the first wave prior to Christmas are the main candidates for the McNair. My reasoning is: if they are sending the invitations for the McNair out by fedex on 2/1, some kids haven't even been accepted to the HC yet.

Anyway, this I think, gives some of us a little more hope than we might have had for a McNair invite. Not sure if my reasoning is correct or not.

I guess we will all find out in a couple of weeks, it will go by quickly.

Forgot that they actually said in the post referred to above that "most acceptances do not come out until February" if that makes any difference

OK... I'll get on that train of thinking. :-)

Namtrag, could you share the specific website for the Myspace entering freshmen page? I'd like to take a look at it myself. I went to myspace and searched, but could not find the specific page you are referring to. Thanks!
