I'm a high school student graduating next week . I am going to go to Purdue University this fall majoring in First Year Engineering. I was thinking about majoring in ME, but I heard that AE course is pretty much like ME course. So now I am thinking about double majoring in ME and AE. Is that a good idea? Or should I major in ME or AE and minor in Physics or Math?

Double majoring in the two would be redundant given the similarity between the two. On top of that, double majors rarely are worth the effort. As for the minors, only do them if you really want them because they also are rarely going to help you on the job market.

You said the two would be redundant, but doesn’t that mean you are more specialized in those fields than others?

major in ME, minor in AE.

That probably only takes 3-4 extra classes, and it keeps you broad.
