Hello,

I am going to be a new freshman in college this fall. I am going for engineering. I put down that I want to be a EE but ME interests me a lot. I am big into math and science. I have not done much with EE but have talked to people that do it, and they say you can go many ways but the direction I like is working in small business that the EE's work with robots in an industrial way. I work now at an Automation place doing a lot of design and updating with SolidWorks and I really enjoy it. This is more ME correct? My dream job would do something with environment with engineering or something with fishing or hunting. I live in Northern Wisconsin and want to stay here, So would EE or ME be better for me?

Thanks

How about energy engineering, if you want to work in renewable energy? Sure mechanical design and electricity are involved, but just as an implementation concern.

EE and ME are both much broader than what you specify as your main interest. Yes they give you skills, but not everything is relevant to what you want to do.

ME would probably be a better pick, if you’re interested in energy-efficient technologies and engines.

I should clarify. Now i work on SolidWorks for stuff like box making assembly, pizza assembly, fire extinguisher assembly and etc

Well, that’s surely mechanical product design of some sort? But that has nothing to do with environment-minded engineering per se.

Basically:

ME: You’re interested in tangible things that you can hold and touch and that are of great use for humans (e.g. vehicles, engines).

EE: Electricity, power and logic interests you.
