My sis and I are wondering who will get into Yale EA.. she's standing right next to me haha and we're hoping you can help us compare who (if either) have a better chance of getting into Yale. It's just a friendly competition and we are both in love with UVA and are automatically in to that school already so we are just curious to see how yale would work out for us... so here are our stats!

Me:

2360 SAT
750 literature /740 biology SAT 2's (taking lit in jan hoping for 800)
top 1.5% of ~1000 class
president of service club
founder of political service organization at school
editor in chief of yearbook
two national awards for service (one was a big deal, other isnt really)
summer internship for governor's office - paid
some yearbook, service awards
prestigious summer program (only one)
GOOD essays, not as GREAT as my sister's
strong recs
state: VA
race: white

My sis:

2250 SAT
800 literature /770 world history SAT 2
top 5% of ~1000 class
president of national honor society
president of key club
student council president
founder of school-wide project (one year)
some regional key club/service awards
many summer programs (quite a few, not as prestigious but they are still quite impressive)
internship with service organization senior year
job senior year - tutoring
GREAT essays
strong recs
state: VA
race: white

Our other schools to chance us if you want:
Harvard
Rochester
UC Berkeley
Yale
Stanford
Duke
Amherst
Swarthmore

I would be surprised if your sister got in over you. It’s hard to take your word on the essays since they’re so subjective, but if hers are actually noticeably better than yours, that could shake things up. Otherwise, I’d be fairly surprised if she got in over you. That being said, it’s a reach for anyone, although I do know twins who got in last year (one was waitlisted). It’s also harder for girls to get in–are you a girl too? If not, that gives you a small advantage over her.

Your list looks pretty good for both of you, and you’ll definitely get into a couple, but you might want more midranges. Rochester is quite a safety and the others are either reaches or low reaches, just given that they are so hard for anyone. You two are both very competitive applicants though.

your chances are much better. Unless you go to a competitive school (Maggie Walker, TJ) that 5% is borderline for Yale, your 1.5% ranking is much stronger though still not optimal.

Is it likely for the both of us to get in? That would actually be wonderful/the ideal situation However, we go to the same school so would that be a disadvantage since we would be compared to each other?

Even if my SAT 2’s and essays are marginally weaker? And yes, it is a very competitive school. She may actually be 4%, and I 2% after final transcripts get sent out, so I don’t actually believe the gap is that large.

But thanks everyone. How’s everyone else doing on their app process?

it sounds like both of you guys are going to be pretty competitive applicants. I’d say that you have an edge over your sister because of your test scores and national awards. Although who knows because that essay of hers could, if it’s really that great, definitely be a game-changer.

Out of curiosity how are you already into UVa?

Anyway, I think your chances are better than your sister’s, I think Yale is a possibility for you, but it might be a little out of your sis’s grasp.

This is the cutest chance thread ever!! With top schools, it’s hard to make a definite chance, but you two are definitely very, very strong and qualified candidates (obviously)!

i actually think you both have decent chances, but it really depends on how many kids are better than you two at your school. If you are both near the very top in terms of overall stats, then the you have good chances. also, some schools like Princeton and Stanford like taking twins ;)

you guys both look good. your sister’s SAT score may hurt her though. the 800 in lit looks great though
Harvard - reach for both (isn’t it for everyone? the national awards will help though)
Rochester- in
UC Berkeley - in
Yale - reach same as harvard
Stanford - reach. i think you will have a better chance as stanford tends to want high scores and great essays (could you and your sister somehow form a megameta college app completer?)
Duke - low reah/high match
Amherst - low reach
Swarthmore - high match

Y’all are as qualified as anyone else. You should get in. If you don’t, chalk it up to chance, no pun intended. I’d say if you go for HYPS, you both should get in to at least one.

@cranberryorange what schools should i add to my list, then? i am thinking about going into politics or law… should i add georgetown and maybe EA there instead?
