Okay, before you all go of and call me out for a being a sophomore, this is my SISTER's STATS!!!
She is a junior and is curious about her current position:

Objective:
SAT: 2270 (single sitting)
ACT: 33 (single sitting)
SAT 2: None yet, this year she will be taking Spanish and Literature
APs: None yet, this year she will be taking Composition, Spanish, and US History
GPA: Perfect 4.0 unweighted, not a blemish on her transcript
Schedule: Not incredible rigorous, but definitely not the easiest
Extra: Junior Year has been ABROAD in SPAIN, so take that into account when reviewing ECs

Subjective:
ECs: 3 years of chorus (2 years in advanced chorus, audition required, one year in a spanish chorus in spain as well), 3 years of varsity field hockey (captain), 2 years of varsity softball, 2 theatre productions, President of Model UN, President of Republican Club (despite the fact she is a democrat, weird i know)
Summer Activities: Service Trip to Nicaragua, Theatre Camp, International Conflict Resolution Camp (competitive application)
Job: Working at a bookstore this summer

Other:
State: MD
School Type: Well known private, incredibly competitive
Ethnicity: White
Gender: F
Hooks: Legacy at Yale

Thank you! If there is any information you do not see here, just let me know and ill post it!

Yes, she stands a high chance at those schools except for Yale. The transcript and resume look quite good to me, but I’m still curious about her presidency of Republican club.

Haha i know its a little quirky, she’s not doing it for a leadership position alone, its a well established club that has been around for a while and it just comes down to the fact that she’s openminded and rejects partisanship, i guess?

Any other opinions would be appreciated! Any recommended safeties? Any of these too far out of reach? Any other matches?
Her primary interests are literature and poly sci

I think much of her chances will come down to essays and recs. She is a very strong applicant, but there is nothing particular eye-popping IMO. I think she will get into at least one of those schools, but understand she is competing with the world’s best and she should adjust her expectations accordingly.

Some safer options that reflect her interests and preferences include Hamilton, Union, Davidson, William and Mary, and Colby. I could see her getting into 4/5 of these schools.

Thanks treeleaf! These schools are considered reaches by her.
She is also looking at:
BU
Oberlin
William and Mary
Macalester
Reed
NYU
Pitzer
Scripps
Bates
Brandeis
Lehigh
^Any opinion on those?
If its any help at all she is a fantastic writer (She won a country wide award for a research paper on the Russo-Japanese War)!! She is also a National Merit Scholar Qualifier at 228 on the PSAT.
And when i say incredibly rigorous for her school, i mean my sister is one of the FEW people in her grade (maybe around 2-3) to make it out of high school with nothing but A’s, and only around 10 or so never get a B+, so its a very challenging school (although there is no rank).

The SAT II subject score will only help her, especially if that is the field is trying to major in. Her SAT I and ACT could have a slight bump, 34 on her ACT and 2300 or higher on the SAT would be solid. Her academics are good other than that. Her ECs are relatively good. Most of those schools are reaches, as they are with anyone else, but you sure should apply. Is it possible that you could tell us what schools she made it into? That would be great to compare ourselves with!

Haha i will be sure to let you know what schools she gets into come December/March.
Currently, she is thinking Yale or Harvard SCEA/EA (legacy at both, so why not). Then, her top three are as such:
1.) Brown
2.) Pomona
3.) Amherst
Her two SAT 2’s were in Literature and Spanish, and she plans to major in either Sociology or IR, so they are relatively apropos. She will be taking US History this summer and the SAT 2 in september.

Legooo i totally understand. But she is applying EA Yale/Harvard not because she thinks she’ll get in, but because her legacy status does improve her chances of getting in. <- i believe that is a totally true statement. By all means it does NOT guarantee admission, but it is clear from statistics legacies have a greater acceptance rate than non legacies, so she figures, why not?
Fair?

Legoo, i totally and absolutely understand your frustration. Legacy status really isnt fair at all. But, seeing as it does exist, my sister and i arent going to just avoid the schools that we have legacy at for the name of fairness. I mean, we really do like those schools as much as anyone else, we’ve grown up to be familiar with them from our parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents, and cousins, to us theyre familiar and friendly and really appealing options. That said, i cannot agree more.

Thanks Irf! UPDATES: This summer she got an internship at a internet start-up. Her bosses loved her and have written a supplementary recommendation that is really stellar. She is thinking about taking the US History SAT and the SAT 1 one more time just to see if she can improve her score. She’s now applying to Harvard as well, where her legacy connection has gotten her an interview with the Dean of Admissions. Any opinions?

UPDATE:
She got into Harvard SCEA!!! Thanks for all of you who chanced her! This is for the people who wanted to know where she got in for reference!
