Meal plan choice at Franklin and Marshall

My son is an incoming freshman he has the 225 and 120 flex dollars plan I just thought to look at them isn’t the 20 meal a week 180 flex dollars better it’s only 50 $more a year. 225 swipes puts a 3 meal a day person really under adding swipes is expensive. The only reason I can see for the 225 plan is that they carry over to the next semester which I suppose is fine if you have a kid that doesn’t eat. Semester is 114 days 20 meals a week is 320 swipes as opposed to 225 swipes. They don’t carry over. I don’t expect him to have any to carry over. Thoughts? Am I missing something? Reaching out to parents or students who have been there done that for feedback. Thank you

I was wondering the same. My son doesn’t eat breakfast so I was thinking of the 14 meal plan with the extra flex dollars. He probably will also be using a microfridge to make some food. The 20 meal plan does sound best for your son.

My other son is a senior at Gettysburg and they had unlimited Swipe plan for freshman. They coykd go in there and get 100 cups of coffee a day if they wanted total was 3k a semester. The past few years he has lived in a suite and he rarely shops or cooks anything himself because it’s a pain. What house is your student in? Mine is in Wies

So I’m trying to figure out what you use flex dollars for. It seems like all campus food choices accept a Swipe for a meal. Choices in Ben Franklin are all you can eat and then the other places scattered around campus are a meal deal like you would order in a restaurant or fast food place, you can use flex dollars to add on to these platters. I’m assuming you can use flex dollars to get a smaller item like a coffee or French fries or ice cream.

The catch at Gettysburg was that swipes were only good in the main dining hall. If your student wanted to go to one of the other places they couldn’t use a Swipe had to use flex. It looks to me that swipes are accepted at all campus eateries the exception being Ben Franklin where you could go back and get another waffle and anywhere else you get a plate of a certain portion of waffles lol.

I spoke to admissions and dining info I found out that 20 swipes a week after 180 flex will assure your kid doesn’t run out of swipes unless they use more than one e Swipe during a mea period or make a mistake and use a meal Swipe for a bagel instead of a flex dollar by mistake. The cost for each semester for this plan is only 20 $ more. Seems like a no brainer for 40 bucks extra a year as opposed to adding meals to your block which are 116 $ for 10 of them. The 225 block puts a kid 90 meals short a semester if they Swipe 3x a day. All freshmen get the 225 block as a default I’m so glad I thought about checking closer. With everything else you have to do to send them off it gets lost in the shuffle.

Good information to know. My son is in Ware with the Genes and Medicine connections class. He was on campus this summer doing a mentorship and was already getting tired of the food after a month. Hopefully there will be more selection when the whole college is back.
