My parents want me to purchase the 14 meals per week meal plan because it is significantly cheaper than the meal plan one level up. This is fine with me but I do have the tendency to restrict my eating (which my parents are not aware of) which is something I’ve been working to correct with therapy, however if I have less meals available to me per week do you think this could worsen my problem? At the moment I’ve lost 23 pounds since november 2018 due to my restrictive eating habits and I don’t want to enable this in college by having less food available to me. Right now my eating habits have a lot to do with home life, so being in college may offset my restrictive habits anyway. Sorry this post was so long.
there is dining dollar included with this meal plan as well so if i do want three meals in one day instead of two i can do that.
If weight loss is a goal, then eating several small meals each day combined with daily exercise is better than eating two large meals. Of course, what you eat is important for weight loss.
@Publisher, the OP is concerned about not eating ENOUGH.
OP: I misunderstood your post. If concerned about losing too much weight, then consider getting a refrigerator in your dorm room.
(A confusing aspect of your post is that your parents are unaware of your restrictive eating habit as you write that you have lost 23 pounds in about 8 months.)
they think that i’ve been just exercising and eating healthier when really i just have habits of restrictive eating.
but yes getting a fridge is a good idea i will do that
You can always raise the meal plan, but you can only drop it the first two weeks of classes. So what if you start with the 14 and see how you’re doing. Then raise it if you feel you need to. How would your parents react if a few weeks in you told them that all your friends go to the dining hall for three meals a day and so you want to raise your plan? Then they wouldn’t need to know the reason why.
There are also a number of guest meals that you can tap into. One concern is that Schine student center will be closed for renovation and the temporary replacement for using your SUperfood funds may be too far from your dorm to be convenient.
Why haven’t you made your parents aware of the issue? They’re trying to save money, I get that. But they’re not doing it from an informed position.
If they’re part of the underlying issue, then I think that you can start with the 14 meals, and work your schedule around it… try for a mid morning brunch break, and a late afternoon dinner break for example.
they are definitely part of the problem plus I don’t think they’d take my concern seriously so I’d rather not talk to them about it. Thank you for the advice about planning i’ll definitely do that.
Ok that makes more sense. Start to think of relatively cheap, healthy foods you can keep in your dorm…peanut butter, granola, cereal… If your school lets you have a Keurig, look into soups that only need hot water.
