Meal plan question

About how many meals per week do the block 200/160 plans get you? I'm not a big eater, so i am planning on only going to the dining hall 2x a day and using flex money for my third meal if i want it. Is the value 14 better in this case?

I counted about 16 weeks in the first semester, so if you divide your meal total by that (200/16), that’ll give you about 12.5 meals per week. If you only expect to eat twice per day it’ll stretch you about 2 meals for six days with an extra meal every other week (give or take). Maybe you can sleep in on Sunday and skip breakfast and lunch, eat leftovers, or smooch off your friends once a week. I hear there’s free food somewhere almost daily so I’m sure you’re covered. Good luck!

Ha ha … That’s about right regarding free food. You can follow Phree Phood on Twitter and they also have a Facebook page. They give updates on UNC events that have free food.

Plus toward the end of the semester, all those silly parents who let their kids sign up for the unlimited and top tier meal plans will have a zillion swipes left over to share with you.

You can’t swipe in people with the unlimited/weekly meal plans.

Ahhh. I remember during a tour someone joked that at the end of the semester tons of students give their swipes to upperclassmen. That it was one of the few times you see tons of seniors hanging with first years.

They do. Lots of unused swipes. The block plans

Yes the block plans are flexible (you can swipe people in and you’re not forced to conform to a set number of meals / week) but they’re also more expensive per meal. The cheapest block plan is more expensive per meal than the most expensive value plan.

Don’t forget that you can also take a to-go box and use it for another meal.
