meal plan

I can only afford the cheapest plan.

Should I do 19 meals + 75 dining buck things
or

17 means + 150 dining buck things

I can't afford to add any case cash either.

It looks like you're trying to save money but I'd recommend the 17 gold unless you're going to playing sports or up early in the mornings. The 17 gold is only $33 more/semester and you'll actually use the Case Cash where as you'll never use the dining points and then when you're at places that take case cash but not dining pts you'll have to pay with real cash. If you go with dining points it's very possible it'll end up costing you more in the end.

CaseCash carries over the semesters and years, dining points don't.

I'm going with the 17+150 Case Cash...figuring that I'll eat Breakfast and Dinner everyday at Leutner, a few lunches, there, and then have some flexibility (for stuff like the Silver Spartan or Wackadoo's) for my other lunches...do you think that 150 Case Cash will be enough for a semester of that, as well as laundry?

I went for the 17 meals + 150 case cash.

17 meals a week is only 2 meals away from the dining halls/grab-it. Odds are that you'll end up missing breakfast some mornings due to sleeping in/over sleeping and then grabbing a bagel ($1.99 at Einstein's on the quad :)) or eating a granola bar/yogurt from your room. If for some reason you happen to run short on the Case Cash which I think is unlikely from personal experience you can always pay cash the last week or so for extra meals.

i did 17 meals + 150 casecash + an extra 250 casecash :-D

yeah I'm going to attempt to swim so I choose 19 meals ;)

I know that my friends that swim actually chose to be on a much smaller mealplan (like 10...that's not available for freshman) because they were missing so many meals for swim team activities (grabbing breakfast on the quad after morning practice/team dinners/parties/going away on weekends for meets)...I'm not recommending that you go that low (even when you do get the chance), but thought it would be good for you to know...definitely get enough meals for yourself to be happy and well-fed, but perhaps extra CaseCash is more useful to a swimmer than extra meal-swipes.

hey... can someone explain to me what exactly the meal plans mean? if i did 17 meals + 150 case cash does that mean i can only have 17 meals per semester in the dining room?

17 meals per week, $150 allotted per semester of CaseCash. However, if you don't use all of the CaseCash in a semester, it will roll over into the next semester (the same is not true for dining points (that will expire at the end of the semester and cannot be used for laundry))

celebrian,
I don't have experience with Case's dining plan, but my son goes to a school with a similar dining plan and I'd like to offer this advice. Buy a smaller dining plan than you think you will need! If he uses up his meal blocks, he has too many dining dollars left over. If he uses his dining dollars, the meal blocks are wasted. He is a big eater and only bought a middle of the road plan.

Can you add to your CaseCash if you begin to run short? If so, there is no risk in taking a small plan.

Dining points do roll over from semester to semester, just not year to year. Case Cash rolls over year to year.
You'll definitely use the dining points, there are a lot of places on campus that take them like Einstein’s, Wacadoos, Starbucks, The Diner, SAGES Café, Tomlinson Cafe(Subway), BRB Cafe, basically anything operated by the school.
What you gain from the Case Cash is Rascal House, Quiznos, Chipotle (best burritos ever), Que Tal (decent burritos), Giant Eagle and a couple of Little Italy restaurants. The Case Cash is worth the 33 bucks but it’s not like the dining points are useless.

casecash buys washing machine/dryer use? WOOOHO i love this place :)

Yeah, I was pleased to hear that I wouldn't need to have a jar of quarters for the washing machines...I hear that some of the vending machines take the card as well.

I saw the vending machines on my visit. They have razors, toothbrushes, bandaids, and condoms... and you can use CaseCash for this. I laughed at the condoms in the vending machine; they were right next to chewing gum LOL

The whole system seems very convenient. Also, they're installing this new laundry feature. When you swipe your card for laundry, it records you id, etc. With this information, they will email you when your load is almost done (so you can go back to your dorm to study or whatever). How cool is that?
