Dorms & Dining

I had a few questions concerning dorms & dining...

•What size are the beds? Are they all extra-long twins?
•Are all freshman going to be on North Campus this year?

•What are dining points and CaseCash?
•And are they on a weekly or monthly cycle (is a plan with 17 meals and 75 CaseCash $75 for the month or week)?
•How many dining halls are there to use the meal plan?
•Where can student use their dining points/CaseCash?

Thanks!

I'm a freshman here at Case. The beds are all extra-long twins. You'll get all the dimensions and stuff in the mail once you're all registered. ALL freshmen will be on Northside next year. This year was an exception because my class was bigger than expected. Dining points and CaseCash are like extra money. Get Case Cash, not dining points. Case Cash is like having a debit card. You can use Case Cash all over campus and at places around campus like Chipotle and Giant Eagle (grocery store). For example, you will get 17 meals a week and $75 of Case Cash for the entire semester. You can always add more Case Cash if you run out. Most of this stuff can be found on the Case website under "Dining Services" or something like that.

Upperclassmen get to live in the new apartments in the North Residential Village which have extra long full-sized beds, but freshmen and sophomores live in the regular dorms with twin-sized extra long beds...

Here is more info about where the Case Cash, Dining Points and Meal Plan can be used: Click on one of the links at the top of a column for more information...

Dining Dollars are only good at oncampus eating places and expires at the end of the year, but the Case Cash can be used for on-campus laundry, at the on-campus bookstore, certain off campus restaurants and grocery stores, on-campus restaurants, etc. If you have Case Cash left over at the end of the year, it can be carried forward to the next year...

There are 2 dining halls (one near Southside; one on Northside) that accept the meal plan, but there is also a pretty good bag-lunch place on campus where you can also use your meal plan at lunchtime (Grab-it).

I also have a couple questions kinda relating to XXDiana's:

When i visited, North campus didn't really seem to be out of the way of anything. Everything seemed to be a pretty short walk from the dorms, or am i missing something?

Also, obviously it won't be hot during most of the year in cleveland, but do the dorms get extremely hot at the beginning/end of the year? Should i plan on bringing one of those big box fans?

jakem333 - my son is a freshman this year, and he did enjoy having a fan to put into his window during August & September.

jakem333, the main things that are far to walk are Veale (the main gym), the southside dorms where some of the SI (supplemental instruction) sessions are held at night, Coventry area, and the other Rapid Transit station. [The Transit station nearer to north side is probably not recommended for someone alone at night. ] But there are "greenies" (buses) to all these places too.

ohh, okay thanks.
Another question lol.
I read that there are these four residential colleges that all first years are placed in (Cedar, Juniper, Magnolia, Mistletoe). Are we randomly placed in one of those, or do we get to choose at some point...i guess i'm just confused because there are no specifics on the housing in what i'm doing right now. Do they send something else to us where we do more specific things such as double or single, roommate requests, and Res. College selection?

How much total CaseCash would you all recommend having per semester?

as far as i know, residential college placement is random, if you plan to enroll into case, you will go through the housing website and they will ask you some questions: do you smoke? if yes, do you object?; is your room a quite study area? if not, is it a relaxing area or a bustling recreational area?; is your bedtime before, after, or around midnight?; do you keep your room tidy and neat? if not, is it lived in and casual, or just a dumping ground?; what's your favorite music? rock/pop? country? rap/urban? classical?.

those are the questions they will ask you...and then i think the roommate requests and double/single room requests are after those questions...

One of the newer things that Case has started is being able to use CaseCash for laundry, which is really nice, but may eat up some of your CaseCash that you budgeted for food. I've been on the 17 meals and $125-150 CaseCash (it's either 125 or 150, I'm too lazy to look it up right now) and that has been fine for me. I go out to eat usually about once a week, most of the time to one of the places that takes CaseCash.
