In my school every freshman has to have a meal plan but we get to choose from 10, 14, and 19 meals per week. I got the 14 one cause honestly it seems more reasonable. I can change it if i dont like it as i assume most school provide for u to change ur meal plan.

I don’t know… It tends to be like… after 3months you are tired of dining food altogether and stop going there and eat out at local fast food places instead. LOL.

At my school freshmen are required to get a “carte blanche” meal plan…basically the majority of the plans (with the exception of one I think) allow you to eat at the main dining hall as many times as you like…the only difference really between the plans is the number of points you get to spend at the food courts and convenience store (and extra points will carry over to the spring term but not the next year)

Personally I didn’t choose the “ultimate” plan my school offered. I’ve already had one student tell me he had so many extra points by the end of his freshman year he was literally buying cases of food at the convenience store and giving it all away to people. Nevertheless, it all depends upon personal preference and you really won’t know how much you’ll take advantage of your plan until you actually get to school.

How good are the meals? My friend told me they are like elementary food?

Cboe - At most colleges, much better than elementary school food! But not great. Go to Cornell or Ithaca College and you’ll have great food…cause they have great catering! Beyond that, you’ll be hard pressed to find a college that actually has good food.

I think the only people at my school who benefited from the mandatory freshman meal plan were the football players because they could actually eat their money’s worth of $13/meal. For everyone else, it was a waste of money because the food was terrible. While the dining hall did offer a variety of food for different diets, its best offerings were the desserts and fries. So, for me, it didn’t turn out to be a very healthy option.

If you’re a freshman, then 2 meals/day sounds pretty reasonable to me. Unless you’re a budding gourmet chef, you probably don’t want to spend too much time freshman year worrying about feeding yourself, since you’ll have plenty of stress from other areas. Lots of upperclassmen at my school have dining points instead of a meal plan because points offer more flexibility. Only one of my friends still has a meal plan. So for upperclassmen, I think 10 meals/wk is sufficient.

But the math works out so that at my school, it’s cheaper to eat out every meal than it is to have a meal plan.

Get the minimum required, then pay cash as needed.

This makes me glad my school doesn’t have any cafeterias.

or just get the lest amount and eat there when the food is good. Then the other times u prepare your own food. One of the best things to get is a george foreman grill. I have had mine for six years and it still works just as good as it did when i first got it. You can make grilled cheese, chicken breast, hot dogs, id buy those 35 cent burritos from walmart and make them on the grill. Throw on some tacobell hot sauce and U R GOOD 2 GO!

And there are alot of foods you can create with your microwave alone, LOL. when you are in a hurry they come in really handy haha
