is 19 meals/wk too much? i mean, it SEEMS logical, but 14 meals is just 2 a day. anyways, which one are you choosing ?

The booklet they mailed to us said basically if you don't plan on waking up before like 9 (I'm not sure about that, might want to check), don't get the 19 meals a week, because breakfast ends before a lot of college students get up. I loves me some eatin', but I'm probably gonna go for the 14 meals a week.

14/week. Two per day is enough: breakfast + lunch + a snack (either at a coffe shop or ...cereal or something from the grocery shop). I'm planning on stocking my minifridge with lots of yoghurt (a food fetish of mine - I eat it along with rice cakes and almonds). Can't fall prey to the freshman 15.

I got 10/week, but you can always use the cardinal dollars that they require you to get if you need more food. All of the meal plans cost the same anyway, and I think some of the dollars carry over to the next quarter if you don't use them. I thought the unused meals expired every week.

Yeah, I know the unused meals expire -- dunno about the dollars. I'm getting 19/week anyway, though, just because probably I'm going to have a lot more to think about first quarter than "oh, shoot, I can't eat for the next two days because I don't have enough meals." I don't think that would happen, but basically... just in case. And then I'll reevaluate after first quarter is over (because you get to pick a new meal plan every quarter... and I think you can even change it up to 2 weeks into the quarter if it isn't working out for you)

I'm going with the 14/day plan. Probably a brunch + early dinner, with the dollars for when I feel extra hungry. BTW, one of my friends in college gave me a nice suggestion--take tupperware into the cafeteria during meals and fill up on some food for later in case you get hungry.

I checked the Approaching Stanford book - Cardinal dollars don't expire until the end of the quarter and up to 50 can carry over to the next quarter, and you can change your plan up to 2 weeks after the start of the quarter (page 43).

If you're in Wilbur, what happens if you get like 19 meals/week? Does it all just become points since it's a la carte? Or is each meal a certain number of points? Or does that mean we should all just get the 10 meals/week?

i have 14/week but i want to change it to 10 because my eating habit is the most obscure...EVER.

Wilbur is a la carte? I thought all frosh got all-you-can-eat plans.

Hey, this is a weird question, but when do you guys have your main meals? I know it varies, but most people in Kuwait have breakfast around 9 am, lunch around 2-3pm and supper around 8-9pm. At home on most days, the only meal I have is lunch at 3pm, and various snacks throughout the day (fruit and vegetables, a sandwich, a bowl of cereal etc). Then again I suppose it wouldn't really matter as I'll have to plan my meals around my classes.

Yeah, I'm on a weird eating schedule too... I'll have breakfast at like 7, and then lunch at 10:30 or 11 and dinner at 4 or 5... all in between I'm snacking on fruits, and in the evening I eat chocolate :)

I guess that's not that weird, just a couple of hours earlier than most peoples'. Oh well. I'll get my schedule and then see..

wow! oh, okay, so you guys call your late afternoon meal dinner? bit confusing. but hey, a meal is a meal!

Haha, that's just how I tend to do it... but I'm by no means a representative American. Most of my friends eat all of their meals later than I do... probably the most stereotypically average I could think of would be breakfast at 8 or 9 (or not, if you're not awake), lunch at noon (or later, if breakfast got pushed later due to sleeping in), and dinner anywhere from 6-9.

nkay, yes, the evening meal is dinner. I think back in the old days, like 1800s, the noon meal was dinner and the evening meal was called supper like you call it. I remember that from reading Laura Ingalls' books. As for mealtimes, from what I've experienced from college/Stanford meals (which isn't, you know, tons), dinners are hella early, even by American standards.

I heard a rumour that Wilbur was switching from a-la-carte to all-you-can-eat, but I don't remember when or from whom I heard that, so don't pay it much mind.

I think I chose the 19 meal plan because I'm a fairly early riser and have to have breakfast. That will probably change after a few weeks into the quarter though, sigh.

14/wk .......

Dinner is the largest meal, which for most Americans is supper (the evening meal). However, here in the midwest is still quite common to hear lunch called dinner since the noon meal is often the largest in rural areas. I'd say the common meal times here are 7-9 am breakfast, 11 am - 1 pm lunch, and 5-8 pm supper, but it all really depends on when you get up. Personally, I often just eat brunch at 10 am since breakfast is too early and lunch too far away.

Interesting. The largest meal here is supper, but given the high % of obesity in Kuwait, I wouldn't say it's the only large meal, lol. Thanks for the info, all!

I got the 14 meal plan... but we get only $420 cardinal dollars a YEAR. That doesn't seem like enough... for a whole year....?

14 meal plan. i think $420 will be enough.

"BTW, one of my friends in college gave me a nice suggestion--take tupperware into the cafeteria during meals and fill up on some food for later in case you get hungry."

$420 is definitely enough. ;) hehe I've already bought microwaveable tupperware.

$420 isn't really enough for a year. Let's say you want three extra meals per week at $7 apiece--that's $21 per week, and school is in session for about, what? 35 weeks? That gives us a sum of $735.

That being said, I also got the 14-meal plan.
