Meal plans

Hey,
I was wondering how people already at Lehigh felt about the meal plans offered. For freshman, you are required to take either the unlimited plan, which i think is probably way too much, or one of the following 4:

19 meals a week plus 50 "dining dollars"
14 meals a week plus 100 "dining dollars"
12 meals a week plus 150 "dining dollars"
or 225 meals a SEMESTER plus 50 "dining dollars"

I'm having trouble deciding which is best for me because

a) I don't know how often or easy it is to use your dining dollars
b) I don't know if it is possible to refill your dining dollars
c) I don't know how many meals a week the 225 total meals even out to

if anyone has experience (or more logic than me, lol), the insight would be much appreciated

thanks again, josh

My first semester last year, I went with the 14 meals per week plus 100 dining dollars then dropped down to 12 meals per week and 150 dining dollars. At least in my opinion, the food in the two main dining halls is nothing to write home about and having the extra dining dollars is nice.

a) Some people use their dining dollars within the first 5 weeks of a semester, others don't use them at all. Dining dollars can be used at the Hawk's nest in Lamberton, the Upper UC food court, and a couple other places around campus.

b) It's possible to refill your dining dollars throughout the semester, and I believe you get a 10% bonus. You will not want to refil your dining dollars, though, because you can buy cheaper and better food off campus.

c) Roughly fifteen weeks in a semester, so about fifteen meals a weak on the block plan. The big upside to the block plan is if you don't plan on using all your meals every week, they won't be going to waste on the block plan. People that have spare meals left over at the end of the semester can buy bags of chips, cases of soda, etc from the upper UC at $4.25/meal.

thanks a bunch! that was exactly what i was looking for. based on what i've read elsewhere and your input i think i'm going to go with the block plan and hope that I can take advantage of the end of semester meal usage.
