<p>I think about this prob, too. I’m not a shy person, but I find it VERY DIFFICULT to be mean and to be mean back to those mean girls.
Do you guys think that the better the school is, the fewer mean girls exist?</p>
<p>There are mean girls at every school, good and bad. It’s just an unfortunate fact of life. Try to find other girls who value you and stay clear of the ones who want to make you miserable. Not always easy.</p>
<p>I do think that the “mean” behavior may be less tolerated at some of the private schools - but sometimes it all flies under the radar and the administration does not know what is happening.</p>
<p>One of my children attends an independent private HS (not boarding school) and there were two girls who were not asked to return after their freshman year because their “mean girl” behavior was not consistent with the school’s code of conduct. That probably could not happen in a public school.</p>
<p>I will agree that there certainly isn’t open “mean-girl” behavior like there was at, say, my public school. It just wouldn’t be tolerated. But it’s the kind of thing that go unnoticed by faculty quite easily- the kind of thing that few would speak up about, especially if it wasn’t blatant.</p>
