My daughter received the Charger Distinction scholarship. I am preparing to do our taxes and noticed that it states “current annual value of 100% tuition” on her award letter. Does that mean that the money is not specifically applied to tuition? On our billing there is just a line item, although it is for the exact amount of tuition it doesn’t specifically state that it went for tuition which could change how somebody does their tax deduction.
Hello @maemmi
Merit Tuition Scholarship award money is applied to a student’s bill for the exact amount of the percent tuition awarded each semester. All charges (tuition, housing, fees, etc.) are applied to this same account - the student’s account. In our system, there is not a way to apply specific awards to specific costs. Instead, all costs are tallied on one side of the bill and awards/payments are tallied on the opposite side, leaving the student’s balance at the bottom. For more information on scholarship money and how its applied, please contact UAH Financial Aid at finaid@uah.edu.
