Have any of you used one for the essay? Did you get caught?

If I get caught, can the proctor notify collegeboard and cancel my scores?

Just dont do it

Bring 10 sharp pencils if need be

lol, any other opinions?

bump bump bump

I hate when someone bumps dumb threads. It’s your choice. Is it really that hard to write with just a regular pencil? I doubt you’ll get in trouble, but why risk it? We don’t know anymore than you do.

If you get the mechanical pencils that look a lot like a real pencil - yellow/orange colored, with the pink plastic tip - you should be fine. I’ve used these for the last two SATs with no issues.

Wait, did it specifically say not to use mechanical pencils :O? You know, I think I used mechanical pencils for all of my SATs, and no one said anything… maybe I’m not just remembering it correctly? I defnitely used mechanical pencils for all the APs. I don’t think it’s that strict. Just make sure you do have a regular pencil on hand and that the mechanical ones register with the scantron.

I used BIC 0.7 mm #2 mechanical pencils for the essay. I used #2 Dixon Ticonderoga regular pencils for the bubbling.

I used a mechanical pencil today and my proctor made me tell her how many sections I used it on. Then she sent this statement to the collegeboard notifying them that I used a mechanical pencil so they could “make sure my test is scored correctly.”

^ You aren’t getting your scores back. Sorry.

Haha um, yeah. I kinda figured. I only took this one as practice anyway so I don’t care lol.

I used one of those mechanical pencils that look like regular pencils. My scores came out fine.

But a regular pencil is actually better because it’s duller, so it’s easier to bubble. Definitely use a mechanical pencil for the essay though.

When the College Board says not to do so, please don’t take the risk. Just follow the directions.
