Hey why can't we use mechanical pencils on the SAT anymore? Do the new scantron's not pick it up or something?

You can still use them. Most proctors (Everyone that I've had) says that it's okay to use mechanical pencils. I think the main reason why they say that they aren't allowed is because they make noise and that SOME are too light for the scantron (Though it is VERY VERY likely that your mechanical pencil isn't one of these that was too light...they just have to be safe in this regard and just say not to use mechanical pencils).

Are you sure? I had a procotor who told us for the SAT II's on Oct 28 that we were absolutely not allowed to use mechanical pencils, and it even said so on the test itself. Moreover I took the test with a mechanical anyways, :P, and now my scores have been delayed ( but I was a standby test taker so....)

the scantron machine picks up reflections, so it would work even if you used a pen. -_- go for it

wrong.

apparently, your scores will be delayed nad you'll get charged extra if you use a pen.

yes my proctor didn't allow mechanical pencils which was a pain for the Math IIC test because a lot of writing is involved, and it inconvenient to sharpen it in the middle of the test.

The proctor says not to use mechanical pencils, because it is now in the SAT instructions. But they still work so it won't matter if you want to use them if your proctor doesn't care (mine was all like whatever for everything, he was pretty cool).

Meh, my proctors have been cool about it (Basically they say that it says not to, but that your scores will be read just fine if you use a mechanical pencil). I've been using a mechanical pencil everytime and my scores have always come on-time.

I used them for all 3 SAT tests I took, and I believe my scores were accurate. I hate regular pencils the point gets too dull for me. No idea why they don't want you to use them, but I do anyway. My last instructor looked at my pencil funny, but she never actually said anything. None of my scores were ever delayed either. :P

I hate regular pencils too, but I used em for the SAT. Even if I wanted to use mechanical I couldn't have because on the Oct. one my proctor refused to let anyone use a mechanical even they all insisted it was okay. >_<
